A man who allegedly failed to pay for sexual services was stoned and had his palm chopped off with a machete before he died in a bush.

Nomsa Ncube, Joyce Ntulikiso and Benard Maphosa appeared before Esigodini resident magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a murder charge.

They were not asked to plead.

They were remanded in custody and will appear before Gwanda regional magistrate for trial.

The court heard that Moyo, who was at the Mbalabala Business Centre, met Ncube, a sex worker, and hired her for sexual services for the whole night. It is said Ncube charged him US$15.

After that, they went to her friend  Ntulikiso’s place where they put up for the night. The court heard that on  the following day Ncube asked for her money for the services rendered but Moyo did not keep his end of the deal.

It is alleged that Ncube reported Moyo to Ntulikiso, who was with her lover,  Maphosa. Out of desperation, Moyo gave Ncube R20 and promised to pay the balance on a later date.

But that did not go down well with Ncube, who charged at him. Sensing danger, Moyo ran for dear life with the trio in hot pursuit. It is said Moyo fell after being pelted by Ncube.

While he was lying on the ground, Maphosa allegedly chopped off his hand with a machete. He resultantly bled to death. After that, they attempted to hang the deceased’s body from a tree but they failed.

Ntulikiso rushed home and lied to her neighbour that they bumped into the lifeless body of a man in a bush.

The matter was reported to the police and investigations were carried out,  leading to the trio’s arrest. — B-Metro

Serial sodomiser slapped with 16-year jail sentence

A prisoner at Mutare Prison Farm, who sexually assaulted other inmates he was sharing a cell with, was slapped with a 16-year jail term.

Trynos Chikondere (52), who was serving a different sentence at Mutare Farm Prison, was sentenced to a further 16-year imprisonment when he recently appeared in court.

Presiding magistrate, Mrs Tilda Mazhande, sentenced Chikondere to one-year imprisonment for indecent assault and 15 years for aggravated indecent assault.

Mr Thurstone Mubvumbi represented the State.

Chikondere was convicted of sexually molesting two youthful inmates aged 23 and 25 years.

Mr Mubvumbi said sometime in November 2023, Chikondere shared a cell with other inmates.

During the night, the first complainant woke up to find Chikondere caressing his behind.

The latter had already lowered the former’s trousers and underwear.

The complainant made a report to Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service officers and a police report was made.

“While the first matter was still pending before the courts, and on January 24, Chikondere was sleeping next to a 23-year-old cellmate when he sexually abused him. When the man woke up, Chikondere was in the middle of sexually abusing him. Prison wardens were called.

“The complainant was sent to hospital for medical examinations and the medical report showed that he had been sexually assaulted. A report was made to the police,” said Mr Mubvumbi.

During both nights, Chikondere and the complainants were sleeping in the same cell with other inmates. — Manica Post

Dad mistakes son for baboon, fatally shoots him

AN elderly farmer mistook his 46-year-old son for a baboon and fatally shot him recently.

The now-late Innocent Nyakurerwa was chasing a troop of baboons that had invaded their maize field when the incident happened. Unknown to Innocent, his father, Isaac Nyakurerwa (81) of Plot 20A, Fairfield Farm, in Headlands was taking aim at the same troop of baboons — using a registered Winchester rifle — and fired a single shot that hit his chin and killed him on the spot.

Nyakurerwa has since been arrested and is facing culpable homicide charges. Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident and said investigations are in progress.

He said the octogenarian allegedly spotted his deceased son’s shadow and mistook it for a baboon.

He only realised the fatal mistake when the deceased screamed for help.

Asst Insp Chinyoka said they had initially charged Nyakurerwa with murder, as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9.23.

However, after vetting the docket presented to them last week, the National Prosecuting Authority directed the police to charge the senior citizen with culpable homicide.

According to the request for remand form submitted to the prosecution by the police, Nyakurerwa shot Innocent once on the chin and he died on the spot.

“On March 26, 2024 at Plot 20A, Fairfield 20 Farm in Headlands, the accused person was chasing some baboons which were approaching his maize field.

“He fired a shot with his rifle, a Winchester 22, to the mountain where the baboons were and he accidentally shot his biological son, Innocent Nyakurerwa, aged 46, on the chin. Innocent died on the spot. The rifle and spent cartridge were recovered from the scene,” it reads.

Nyakurerwa has since been released from custody, waiting to be charged with culpable homicide. He is expected to appear in court soon.

In an unrelated incident, a Honde Valley man was found dead, with his body in an advanced state of decomposition, in a suspected murder case. — Manica Post
