Churches and musicians in Zimbabwe have come together to work on an environmental musical album and video titled “And the Church Goes Green”.
Mr Dereck Mpofu, a green ambassador, said “What we have done so far is to record churches singing in the usual way that they sing at church; for instance, the Roman Catholic in a catholic way, Mapostori in the same way and many others but putting across an environmental message.
“The general idea is that looking at the percentage of Christians in Zimbabwe, our message will get to the majority in the shortest possible time. Also the moral authority of pastors will see a greater behavioural change in the different congregations.”
Going Green means to pursue knowledge and practices that lead to more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible decisions and lifestyles.
About 24 churches are expected to be part of the launch on April 16 at Harare Gardens. Admission is free.
“Other churches that haven’t yet joined hands with us are welcome to do so,” added Mr Mpofu.
Prior to the launch, participating churches and artistes will have a clean-up campaign in Harare’s CBD.
Environment, Water and Climate Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri and the Mayor of Harare, councillor Bernard Manyenyeni, will be in attendance.
Among those that will perform at the launch are Bethen Pasinawako Ngolomi, Pax Gomo, Albert Nyathi, Abraham Matuka, Savison Machetu, Ghetto Praise, Potters’ Clay, Peace Gospel Choir, Unite, Enitah Jabangwe, Extreme Afrique Deeper Worship and Salvation Project among others.
