The church must play a critical role in controlling the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, according to Beitbridge-based author and preacher Pastor Trymore Kufakunesu.

He told The Sunday Mail Society that he has been praying for the Covid-19 situation to improve and allow people to freely congregate.

He reckons his church’s motto for this year — “The Year of His Word — could be achieved through preaching the Word and writing about it.

It is believed that way the message could reach a wider audience.

“However, as things stand, the church in its totality must embrace the Government’s efforts.

The church must play a critical role, acting as a source of information, educating their congregants and communities in which they operate about the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, the church should teach by example in following World Health Organisation and Ministry of Health and Child Care recommendations on Covid-19,” he said.

“As a church, we traditionally hold gatherings like the Easter Conference but we had to put this on hold as obtaining Covid-19 measures demand otherwise.

“The church’s main conference, which we hold every year in October, was last year and in 2020 held in unusual circumstances as we had to follow the law by limiting the numbers allowed at gatherings.”

The cleric also added that revivals, just like the one the church had scheduled this month in Chitungwiza, can only happen in line with Covid-19 protocols and guidelines.

Pastor Kufa said he is presently concentrating on writing Christian literature.

He, however, envisages writing beyond this.

“I have always been and am still a person who likes and enjoys reading books as well as articles published in different media. Even during my time at school, especially when I reached secondary level, I liked writing poems and stories for interest’s sake. I never imagined that I would write for an audience.

“Matthew 28 verse 19 says ‘Go ye, therefore, and preach the gospel to every creature in every nation.’ So, to me, writing is part of the great commission.

“Where we can’t reach physically, our literature can. I wish my writing will reach the level where it can minister to the whole world.”

He added that published literary works are timeless.

Pastor Kufa is also a businessman who is into clearing and handling imports and exports.

He was born on September 9, 1988 at Musekiwa Village in Hwedza as the fifth child in a family of seven.
He did his primary education at Steven’s Makurumure Primary School before proceeding to Wedza High School for his secondary education from 2003 up to 2006.

It was during his time at secondary school that he became a Christian.

He later moved to Beitbridge in 2009 and joined the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe Church, but subsequently established his own ministry — The Christian Embassy Apostolic Church — which opened its doors for worship in August 2019.

Pastor Kufa is married to Pamela Kufakunesu and the couple has three children — two girls and a boy.
He released his first book — a prayer manual — in November last year and is working on a second book.
