Christmas messages

The Sunday Mail

Mai Chisamba (Social commentator)
Christmas is a time to give and not to receive. Hakuna asina chekupa. Even if you don’t have money to buy gifts, you can still offer your time and help others with their work. Kutopa ikoko. Again, Christmas is a time to remember the birth of Jesus Christ.

I have realised over the years that instead of people reflecting on the goodness of the Lord, some actually want to indulge in all sorts of unholy activities that often lead to physical and or spiritual death. Zvimwe zvacho zvinosanganisira kuba, kuita zvebonde, nekudhakwa – these things are not right and must be avoided. That said, I want to encourage everyone to remain peaceful and calm during this festive season. I will be spending time with my family. I wish all Zimbabweans a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2018.

This is a time for giving, loving and being thankful. A time to reflect back on our year and all we have been through and to thank God for the beauty of life. It is a time to remember that even though we are sinners, God still loves us as He gave us His son who died for our sins so we celebrate this birth. It is a special time to share with family, close friends and also get to remember those who have no parents or guardians to take care of them. Unfortunately, I will not be with my family. We are travelling to Malawi for a four-day tour. I will miss them for sure but I know it is what we have always prayed for, an opportunity to work and feed our families, even though it means being away on Christmas. For those who are fortunate enough to be with their families, please do have fun, enjoy it to the fullest, be thankful and most of all stay safe on the roads. To you all masoja, don’t drink and drive.

We are happy it’s time to reflect on God’s special gift to the world. Christmas is a ceremonial calendar date that affords us the opportunity to think of Jesus’ humility that saw him being born of a virgin and living a sinless life. We shall take our children to the village for them to appreciate how others enjoy the important holiday. And, of course, we will attend church service in the morning.

It means family time, celebrations and partying. Sadly that has now changed for me due to work commitments. The festive season provides more business opportunities. I have a number of functions and shows lined up. I will only take a break in January.

This is a time of giving and being with the family and loved ones. It is also a time to reflect on God’s love for mankind and how He gave us His son to clear our sins. It’s a time to love everyone irrespective of our differences. I spend Christmas with my family and friends and make sure I put smiles on their faces. I wish all Zimbabweans a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, what you didn’t achieve in 2017 should surely come in 2018, happy holidays.

Joe Njagu (Film producer)
I am giving time to my family. Our work keeps us away from them. So I have dedicated to take time off work to be with them and celebrate together. I will also make sure we remember the less fortunate and make their season merry too. To my fellow countrymen, I say we are in a new season where the merriness of Christmas should transcend into the new year as we strive to build this country to become a better place. Merry Christmas everybody and happy holidays.
