WITH reports of rampant corruption in the country, Christ Network Zimbabwe has called on church leaders to strongly denounce graft which threatens to tear the nation’s moral fabric.
CNZ leader Bishop Susan Dhliwayo said Christians should join hands in the fight against graft.
“Speaking out against wrongdoing in churches is something all Christians should consider their responsibility. We need more Christians to help the Government and stand for the truth always,” she said. “Whenever there is corruption, God’s people should stand up and speak from a position of integrity.”
Bishop Dhliwayo said the high levels of corruption in Zimbabwe were a challenge for pastors to guide the nation out of the rot.
She encouraged Christian leaders to teach congregates the unadulterated Word of God.
“The problem nowadays is that (corruption) is starting in the church. A number of gospel ministers are preaching only to advance their personal interests and material gains. As a result no one is rebuking sins,” she lamented.
“As a Christian nation we should live by example practicing what we read in the Bible. People have spiritual, material, financial and emotional problems and they come to church for solutions. But what they seek at times may not be achieved and they keep moving from one church to another in search for the solutions.
“This phenomenon brings to the fore the rhetorical question; what are we doing as ministers of God? For if we were doing the work, all these money making movements that are not rooted in the Word would have stopped,” she said.
She added that for the nation to curb corruption and other social ills, Christians who were not motivated by money must preach and teach through their works.
