At least 50 children in Mashonaland East province are having their school fees, stationery and sanitary wear paid for by a group of Zimbabwean women based in the United Kingdom under an organisation called Women of Valiance (VOW).

The women’s group seeks to uplift children living in rural areas through education.

It has helped learners in Marondera, Seke and Masomera, while other children who lost their parents have been adopted.

VOW founder Ms Beritha Muzondo said their group brings women together to motivate, inspire and support them in many aspects of life.

“Each year for the past four years, we hold an annual ladies luncheon where we have over 200 women in attendance and we fundraise for education in rural Zimbabwe,” she said.

“Over the last four years, we have been supporting over 50 children in Marondera rural, Seke and Masomera with school fees, uniforms, stationery and sanitary wear.”

Some of the women have since adopted children and support them with food, blankets and clothes.

On October 27, the charitable organisation presented donations in the form of school fees, uniforms, stationery and sanitary wear to Kandava Primary School.

Ms Muzondo, who recently went through treatment for breast cancer which was diagnosed in 2017, launched a book on September 11 during one of their annual luncheons.

Titled “The Little Book of Love and Hope”, the work gave her the strength and willpower to get through the difficult period.

This year’s VOW theme was “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.

“We chose this theme to reflect the difficult times we have all gone through, especially with the Covid-19, to inspire people not to give up but to keep fighting no matter what adversities we face in life,” added Ms Muzondo.

Some members of the charity organisation include Bren Mupa, Tsitsi Mahachi, Aayeesha Muzondo and Malorie Gapara, who continue to work tirelessly to ensure beneficiaries get support.
