Like I said, todayai??i??s sermon is coming from Ephesians 5 vs 8 which says: ai???For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Work as children of light.ai???
This is a tricky sermon because the issue at hand, Gukurahundi is an emotional one and has been abused countless times to raise emotions, especially in Matabeleland.
Former minister Cde Cephas Msipa seems to have joined the bandwagon of those who want to make a living abusing this Gukurahundi issue and I think its high time this sickening trend is brought to an end.
One of my congregants brought me Cde Msipaai??i??s latest book entitled: ai??? In Pursuit of Freedom and Justice,ai??? and the way he tackled the Gukurahundi issue in the book immediately caught my attention.
In the book, Cde Msipa starts by moaning that many innocent men, women and children were killed for allegedly harbouring dissidents or supporting them.
He says this turned out to be a massacre of PF Zapu supporters.
A few years ago, President Mugabe described Gukurahundi as a ai???moment of madness,ai??? and in his book, Cde Msipa says ai???Gukurahundi was not a dayai??i??s event or a ai???moment of madnessai??i?? as it occurred from 1981 until 1987.
Now this is the part that Bishop Lazarus has a problem with.
It looks like some people, including Cde Msipa are beginning to mistake President Mugabeai??i??s diplomacy in handling this issue as a weakness.
Indeed, very bad things happened during Gukurahundi and as a Bishop my heart bleeds when I think about this dark period of our countryai??i??s history.
However, Ephesians 5 vs 8 says ai???for at one time you were darkness.ai???
Gukurahundi was the darkness, but when the President described it as a moment of madness, Ephesians says ai???but now you are light in the Lord.ai???
It looks like some people, Cde Msipa included do not want to ai???work as children of light,ai??? by constantly trying to raise emotions over the issue.
Bishop Lazarus is fed up with these people who are now even abusing the people they claim to be representing.
I am fed up with these people who are mistaking President Mugabeai??i??s diplomacy for a weakness.
I think its high time Zanu-PF discusses the Gukurahundi issue in robust and brutal ways that will silence these political opportunists and political prostitutes.
Again and again, these opportunists and prostitutes keep raising this issue because the story has been told from one side for far too long. Zanu-PF needs to remove this yoke off the Presidentai??i??s neck.
What is even more sickening is that many times, Gukurahundi is discussed or brought up out of contest or without any context, leaving those not in the know pointing all fingers in one direction.
Proverbs 6 vs 19 talks about a false witness who breathes out lies and one who sows discord among brothers.
There are many such false witnesses sowing discord by abusing this Gukurahundi issue.
This nonsense has to stop and the only way it can stop is when Zanu-PF silences the opportunists by putting Gukurahundi in its proper perspective.
Surely, Cde Msipa should know better, just like Dumiso Dabengwa and others should know better.
The half-baked truths are not taking the country anywhere.
Cde Msipa, who claims to be an wise elder, goes further in his book to show how wise elders should never think.
He wrote: ai???There were meetings at which the matter was raised in my presence and (President) Mugabe insisted that the matter be discussed so he could learn more about what happened and was still happening.
ai???The question is why he did not know what was happening when it was in the media and many human rights organisations and churches were publicly protesting (about the matter).ai???
Maybe Cde Msipa is getting too old, but surely did he expect the media to inform him about what happened during Gukurahundi?
Did he expect the human rights organisations to inform the President about Gukurahundi?
And did he expect the churches to do the same?
This hired media?
These hired human rights organisations?
And these hired churches? Surely, this old man from Midlands should get really or get lost.
From his statement, it is clear that President Mugabe wanted the meetings he was referring to, to discuss the Gukurahundi issue openly.
The problem would have been to hear that President Mugabe was saying lets not discuss the issue.
Instead of trying to make himself a hero, Cde Msipa should know that he let the people of Matabeleland down.
He attended the meetings he was referring to but he didnai??i??t say anything. He should have taken the opportunity to lay the facts bare than to wait and try to present himself as a hero through his book.
Bishop Lazarus thinks Cde Msipa is actually a coward.
An old coward with no shame.
Obviously, the lunatics in the private media are excited by this one-sided story and to them cowards deserve space on the front page.
Well, let the lunatics dream on thinking Gukurahundi can one day became a frontier for reviving the opposition.
When the full story is told, as it surely will soon be told by those that know better, the tables will turn.
President Mugabe canai??i??t continue being held hostage by the Gukurahundi issue. Zanu-PF canai??i??t continue sugar-coating the full story.
The most unfortunate thing would be for the present generation of leaders to leave without putting Gukurahundi into proper context and without demystifying this issue.
This issue needs to be discussed openly without fear or favour because the opportunists have been abusing the people of Zimbabwe in general and the people of Matabeleland in particular.
