AFRO-FUSION musician Batsirai Shasha is gently, but surely, creating noticeable waves on the music scene.

The rising star is armed with an amazing stage presence, while his composition skills and vocal range give him an edge over his competition.

Shasha is fairly new to the game but is already attracting healthy crowds for his electric solo gigs.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society, the budding singer said music was his first love.

In addition to other music training undertakings, he has also studied for a music and musicology degree with Midlands State University.

“God blessed me with the right academic qualities and I could have pursued any other career, but music is my first love. I am where I want to be in terms of career choice,” Shasha said.

“Besides developing interest at an early age, I still went on to pursue a degree in music and I am so at home on stage. I wouldn’t choose anything else besides music.”

Shasha, who started performing in primary school, went professional three years ago.

Over the years, he has managed to build a solid sound with the help of a committed, talented band and supportive management.

“I can play all instruments including the guitar, mbira and piano. Also, I have a full-time professional brand that has ample time to practise because we have a professionally run studio and rehearsal kit. This has helped us produce a solid sound and convincing act. Every show with us is an experience and our followers are loving us,” revealed Shasha.

To further bolster his brand visibility, the talented crooner has engaged a multi-award-winning public relations and brand management agency.

“We don’t want to sell ourselves short, so we have engaged a tried and tested public relations and brand management company to handle our corporate affairs and we are happy with the direction things are going thus far. The future is bright and we are stopping at nothing,” he said.

The soulful singer, who has produced two pulsating albums to date, is managed by his mother Florence Chaurura.

“This is not a case of a mother overstepping her boundaries but a professional and well-thought strategic move. She (mum) is my full-time manager. She is a professional who loves and supports talent beyond me and we have managed to build this brand from scratch.

“My mum has been my biggest supporter from day one. She consumes and markets my music to the best of her capacity.”

The passionate mum-cum-manager said the world is yet to see the best of the crooner.

“Its early days but the amount of love and traction we have built is just amazing. Batsirai is made for the stage and I am glad that he has found his groove. Zimbabwe and the world are yet to see the best of him. I am happy he has been accepted and embraced by music lovers and critics,” said Chaurura.

Batsirai is getting recognition from many corporates.

He has since sealed a resident performer deal with Jasen Mphepho Theatre in Harare, where he will perform on November 12.

Shasha said his music is inspired by life and people.

“The life stories that are surrounding me make me want to write music and perform. The most unique thing about my compositions is my church background, which resonates in my music. I am already involved in charity work, hence my commitment to give back.”

The talented crooner also thanked the music industry stakeholders and critics for their support and counsel.

“No man is an island and nobody can claim monopoly of wisdom.”
