ZIMPRAISE music director Wellington Kwenda is set to release a new album as he makes a name with solo projects.

Kwenda released his debut album “Passion of Praise” in 2013, which carried powerful songs like “Fire Fire”, “Yahweh”, “Tinodiwa naJesu” and “Changamire”.

The Harare-bred artist said, “I was raised by a single mother, my father passed away when I was in grade four; it was then that I drew inspiration from my mother to be a gospel minister.

“My mother ushered me into the Christian life and I benefited a lot that is why I always desire to see her smiling. You know mothers they are very strict on issue of going to church. When we were growing up things were tough but the only way that my mother solved any of the problems was kneeling down and pray to God.”

Kwenda is confident that his forthcoming album – yet to be named – that is being produced by his long-time friend Macdonald “Mac Dee” Chidavaenzi will help him develop another dimension of his musical craft.

“I have already released a single track ‘Usamutendere’, which I believe is living up to expectations. ‘Usamutendere’ is doing well on the Star FM Gospel Greats and last week it was on position three.

“I am trying to express myself in another dimension that is why I have embarked on a parallel solo project,” said Kwenda. “I am not leaving Zimpraise at all. Zimpraise is part of me and my solo projects are not in any way affecting or compromising my responsibilities at Zimpraise.”

Kwenda joined Zimpraise as an ordinary member before rising through the ranks to his current position as the choir director, working closely with CEO Joseph Madzire.

“Many people are giving in to a defeatist’s attitude and I believe the songs that I am composing will inspire them not only to love God but to know that they are victors in Christ.

“For example ‘Usamutendere’ is a victory song and is one of many moving songs which will feature on my 10 track album,” he explained.
