Zanu-PF has dealt with more than 200 disciplinary cases in 2015 as part of a structural realignment that claimed the scalps of then Vice-President Joice Mujuru and her band of putschists.
The bulk of the cases were linked to Dr Mujuru’s cabal, which allegedly plotted to unconstitutionally unseat President Mugabe in both Zanu-PF and Government.
The conspirators were invariably cautioned, reprimanded, suspended or expelled as was the case with Dr Mujuru and her allies such as Messrs Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo, Mr Ray Kaukonde and others.
The Zanu-PF Central Committee Report to the party’s 15th Annual National People’s Conference in Victoria Falls two weeks ago says the disciplinary cases were from all 10 provinces.
“The rationale for the vote of no confidence passed on members varied and related to disloyalty to the party leadership, ethos and values,” reads part of the report. “Those within the party’s ranks who caused disharmony, fanned factionalism and engaged in corruption were bought before the National Disciplinary Committee.
“The National Disciplinary Committee considered cases individually and passed appropriate individual judgments that include expulsion, suspension, reprimand and cautioning.”
The report shows that Dr Mujuru, Dr Olivia Muchena, Messrs Mutasa, Gumbo, Kaukonde, Jabulani Sibanda, David Butau, Temba Mliswa, Dzikamai Mavhaire, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Claudius Makova and Kudakwashe Gopo were expelled from the party.
It states that 14 party members were barred from leadership posts for five years, three others for three years, and 112 more for two years.
The Politburo dismissed eight cases, while five others are still before the National Disciplinary Committee.
One party member received a written reprimand.
Those serving two to five-year suspensions, the report says, remain ordinary card-carrying members during that period, enjoying members’ rights and duties as provided for by Article 3 Sections 20 and 21 of Zanu-PF’s constitution.
Members of Parliament who were disciplined but not recalled should continue development work in their constituencies, subject to clearance by Zanu-PF district leaders.
