VASHAGARE: After talking so much, Silva has to win a lot Sunday Mail

The Sunday Mail

REGRETTABLY I won’t be talking about guys who believe that football boots are like condoms, one size fits all.

No I won’t be chewing into a Zifa president who declares that as long as he is boss at 53 Livingstone Avenue, our beloved Kallisto Pasuwa will be the Warriors coach.

Never mind the results Pasuwa, just pray that Phillip Chiyangwa stays on forever!

And yours truly will not be opening the can, full of worms, that is the issue of Kenias Mubaiwa offering second hand Japanese cars as sign on fees to Dynamos players.

However, it is at DeMbare that we are at today and one Paulo Jorge Silva is firmly under the microscope.

In brief the guy talks a lot, loves the F word so much, is a strict disciplinarian and just like many before him, he is of the belief that he is bringing light to a dark football country.

He is a joke at times.

But he is also on to something as he pushes to change the culture at a club that is used to doing business like a shebeen.

Probably for the first time in Dynamos’ history, players will now be fined for pitching up late for training.

Training usually starts at 9 am and Silva has told his boys that everyone should be kitted up and ready for warm up 15 minutes before then.

However, skipper Augustine Mbara and his lieutenants, who seemed to have mastered the art of being late for everything, are making sure everyone is ready to go by 8:30 am.

It’s a move that has charmed Silva.

The effervescent gaffer has also ordered his players to warm up as a group, bringing to an end the trend whereby players would jog in small groups of three or four.

So there is no more Steven Alimenda and Sydney Linyama warm up partnership!

The biggest beneficiary of the new regime has to be new boy Valentine Ndaba who has been struggling to find a clique to flow with after joining from Highlanders.

Silva has also decided to give Takesure Chinyama another chance to prove his worth after the pair got off their relationship to the worst possible start.

However, it has taken long for the new Dynamos gaffer to diagnose that the veteran striker has a serious knee injury and cannot be asked to push as hard as the other lads.

Chinyama’s heart might want but his body just can’t allow, Silva has concluded.

The exit door awaits the veteran forward unless Magaya intervenes.

Silva also reckons Roderick Mutuma is a “super” striker but Richard Kawondera is the real deal.

He has told the Dynamos executive he needs just three months to turn Kawondera into the best striker in Zimbabwe and about half a year to process young Musa Madhiri for Europe.

The Portuguese believes in Madhiri and the starlet endeared himself with the gaffer when he converted a penalty during the 2-0 defeat of Kabwe Warriors at Rufaro a fortnight ago.

His ability to convert the penalty convinced Silva that Madhiri has a big heart while the player’s decision to celebrate by taking off his shirt saw him being ordered to do some sit ups as punishment.

It hasn’t also taken long for Silva to know that some members of his technical team have interests in the signing of players.

Consequently the cut they got from the Madhiri deal will be the last they will come across because as from Wednesday last week, Silva has sole say on player signings.

Clearly Silva works hard but talks hard as well and because of his motor mouth, DeMbare fans are expecting heaven.

Never mind his questionable coaching credentials, this man has already won over the club’s fans with his “I am the winning one gospel.”

Will Silva bring gold to DeMbare?

Only time will tell.
