THE excitement of having his wife and son by his side is the secret behind Bruce Kangwa’s sparkling form. It’s just amazing,” says the Highlanders utility man, the Premiership’s leading goal marksman with six goals. Kangwa, thrust into a midfield role from left-back by Dutch mentor Erol Akbay, has been the star of Bosso’s storming start to the season. However, the Bulawayo side are already preparing to lose their star man as his fine form has caught the attention of Tanzanian giants Young Africans. Other reports suggest that an unnamed club in Cyprus is watching Kangwa.

But if it wasn’t for the return of his sweetheart, Amanda, from Canada where she is studying, all this would not have been possible, says the Bosso man. This is the first time Kangwa has spent quality time with his wife and son since their wedding in January 2014.

“Sometimes the thought of her, when she is in a far away land, affects me negatively; there are times when circumstances off the pitch affect your play. “Amanda and our child Jayden are back from Canada and I am more relaxed, enjoying myself on and off the field. I am playing for them, they inspire me a lot,” smiles Kangwa.

The midfielder also hails the effect that Akbay has had on his game.

“The coach believes in us and we believe in him. He tells us to do what we can, freely, and he knows how best to motivate the players. He wants us to operate freely, to enjoy the game but at the same time also getting the results.

“We also have a number of youngsters like Prince Dube and King Nadolo who contribute a lot. This is not about Kangwa after all, this is about teamwork.” One of Akbay’s first decisions was to move Kangwa from left-back to the left side of midfield. The results have been explosive.

“The coach has pushed me into an advanced position and it has paid off. I am trying my level best in this attacking position. Only time will tell but it is good that I am also scoring goals for the club. Akbay is a very good coach, that I should stress,” says Kangwa.

As the league inches towards the midway stage, some have begun talking of a possible Bosso title while others are already relishing the impending back-to-back clashes against the other top contender, Caps United.

Bosso host Makepekepe on Match Day 15 before travelling to Harare for the return fixture, in what could be a crucial fortnight in the 2016 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League race.

“There is still a long way to go, only God knows which team will win the 2016 title. We are pushing every week and taking each game as it comes,” says Kangwa. “Things are happening but we should not get carried away, I cannot talk about the title now, the time to talk about it will come.

“However, I am in a confident mode; my wife and kid are here in Bulawayo and I am playing for them. The sad thing is she will be going back soon but in the mean time I have to make the most of the time that she is here together with our son.”
