UZ Stars look set to give their run-in to the Harare Basketball League a strong finish and began on a high, after a 42-24 mauling of FML Bullets during a spellbinding encounter at Richwood yesterday.
Already out of contention for the title, Stars made mince-meat out of their opponents, who they bested in height, skill and muscle.

The Bullets and Stars match-up was a predictable encounter as Stars went on a seven-point unanswered run, a factor that could be attributed to Bullets’ jittery start as they turned over unnecessarily and were guilty of some wayward shooting.

UZ Stars then rushed to a 7-4 lead in the first quarter.

The second and third were the same as Stars dominated the board with guards Rukudzo Mutsekwa and Julia Tafirenyika collecting both the offensive and defensive rebounds while Tatenda Chigwada punished them with some impressive shooting. Chigwada led the scoring with 10 points for her team, followed by Tafirenyika’s eight points.

For the Bullets it was only Mutasa who stood out with eight points. HBA spokesman Carlos Munda expressed satisfaction with the proceedings.

“We are happy with the way the league ran, with a lot of competition and players raising their hands to be counted, but we do have some reservations about the women’s division. We also want to have a fully operating high school division next season,’ he said.
