SEARCH for The Sunday Mail Bride of the Year-2017 has reached fever pitch with voting set to commence today, running until April.

The ultimate winner will be crowned at a prize giving dinner that will be held on April 20 at the Rainbow Towers hotel in the capital.

Last year’s edition was a major success and was graced by legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi, who gave a pulsating performance.

This time around, the event is set to be bigger and better considering extensive preparations and corporate partners that have come on board.

The Sunday Mail Bridal Expo will take place at the Rainbow Towers foyer on March 17.

The expo, starting at 9am and ending at 4pm, will see various players in the bridal industry showcasing an assortment of their wedding goods and services.  Speaking to The Sunday Mail Society, Zimpapers Corporate Events manager Ms Jackie Kathemba said preparations are now at an advanced stage.

“There are only a few weeks to go before this bridal fete so we will be using the time that we have left to put on the final touches.

There are many people who are always looking forward to this event so we are going to be working flat out to make the day memorable,” said Ms Kathemba.

She added while the traditional way of voting through newspaper cuttings is still valid, they are looking at other avenues to increase the number of voters. “We are still using the same voting criteria as with all the other years, but there is a probability that we might also introduce an SMS voting platform.”

Entrance into the bridal expo will be absolutely free of charge.

However, those who wish to be part of the prize giving dinner will have to pay US$45 for a seat. Couples will part with US$80 for their two seats.

A table of 10 will be going for US$400 while exhibiting at the expo will cost US$120 for a stand.

The search for the Bride of the Year is national, as represented not only by extensive and nation-wide circulation of The Sunday Mail, but also the diverse entries from the whole country. To enter the competition, brides are invited to submit their photographs and that of their cakes.  An in-house committee selects the loveliest bride for that week, who is published as the Bride of the Week.

One of the four or five brides that qualify for the monthly competition is chosen by the same in-house committee to be Bride of the Month.

The 12 brides are then put to a readers’ vote, with the one with the most votes becoming the Bride of the Year. The same format is used for the Cake of the Year competition.

Birthed in the 70s, The Sunday Mail Bride of the Year competition has over the years grown to become the premier bridal event in the country.

The Sunday Mail, being the leading family publication, runs other equally prestigious and well-received competitions like The Sunday Mail Baby of the Year competition.
