Revellers defy January disease Hope Masike

The Sunday Mail

JANUARY is usually characterised by low action on the entertainment scene, with most artistes taking a break while the “January disease” takes its toll.
Despite the slow start on the entertainment calendar, there has not been any shortage of activities in and around Harare with some of the top artistes who include Suluman Chimbetu and Jah Prayzah keeping the fire burning as they continue staging shows.
Last Sunday, Jah Prayzah’s family show at extra mile proved that there are many music fans who still have some energy to party and the pockets to support that even after the festive holidays.
Although, the venue was not filled to capacity, it was close enough and the Third Generation band did not disappoint, dishing out their usual excellent displays.
The “school uniform” attire popularised by their hit video “Eriza”, seemed to be in sync with their fans as most of them also came to the show wearing school uniforms.
Performing popular hits as well as new material, Jah Prayzah, managed to keep his fans on the dance floor late into the night.
Motor Action Sports Club
Moving from the busy Mbudzi area where Jah Prayzah was hosting his show, past the central business district to the green lawns of Motor Action Sports Club, the party scene was turned up a notch.
For the last quarter of 2016, Motor Action Sports Club became the place to be on Sundays. The top leisure spot has not slowed down in 2016, thousands continue to flock to the open air joint.
Plus-sized MC Big Dolla Bruce and crew were at their usual best and ensured that the dance floor kept on buzzing into the wee hours of the morning. With the overwhelming crowds that attend these Sunday gigs, organisers have since gone on to set up a bigger and better stage.
7 Arts Theatre
This Friday music lovers are in for a treat with one of the most anticipated shows of the month taking place at the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale.
Dubbed “The Ignition Concert”, the show will have two of the hottest artistes at the moment, Jah Prayzah and Winky D.
Organisers of the gig said they have already sold a substantial amount of tickets, which means the probability that this might be a sold out show is high. Jah Prayzah, who is riding high on the success of his new videos is known to command a huge following and with the magnitude of this show, the venue might just prove to be small.
Gaffer, as Winky D is now affectionately known, has been on cloud nine with a string of hits that include “Disappear”, which has even managed to penetrate into church services. He managed to steal the show on New Year’s Eve at the “Fill Up The HICC” concert, which was headlined by Jah Prayzah and it still remains to be seen if he will manage to pull the same stunt on Friday.
This gig is bound to be explosive as it will determine who the best is on stage between the two heavyweights.
Alliance Francaise
On the same day, Hope Masike who has recently been nominated for a KORA award will also be staging a show at Alliance Francaise.
The mbira songstress will be out to prove why she has been nominated for such a prestigious award.
Club 1+1 Happy
Today Club 1+1 Happy launches its All-star Sunday Sessions, which kick off in the afternoon. These sessions are going to feature a host of DJs from different clubs in Harare who will include TK Beats, Seductive G, Jadi Jam and Ashley Black, among others. The initiative is the brainchild of Takudzwa Machumo and it is meant to be a platform where DJs from different clubs get to showcase their talents under one roof.
