HARARE CITY coach Moses “Bambo” Chunga is targeting to have at least a quarter of his team made up of teenagers, and says that journey begins today when his side take on high-flying Highlanders in the Commander Zimbabwe National Army Charities Shield at Barbourfields. Chunga is a firm believer in junior talent and took the local league by storm with his “Kidznet” project at Dynamos, filling the team with teenage talents like Samson Choruwa, Eddie Mashiri, Nyasha Chazika and Leo Kurauzvione at the turn of the millennium.

It is something he wants to replicate at the Sunshine Boys, and those who will be at Barbourfields will have a chance to watch the genesis of the new Kidznet project.

“We are planning to throw in a couple of them for the match against Highlanders,” Chunga said. “My target is that at least a quarter of the team should be teenagers in the near future. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have confidence in the seniors, they are still very important and will continue playing. We also want to win the cup and will not be doing things that diminish our chances of winning.”

Highlanders coach Erol Akbay said Bosso were looking at giving fringe players who have been doing well at training a chance to prove their worth.

“Every cup that we play in has to be won and this is not an exception,” said Akbay. “At the same time there are players who have been doing very well at training but have not been getting game time so I will give them a chance to make a claim for a regular place in the team,” he said.

Winners of the final will walk away US$12 000 richer while the losing finalists will get US$8 000.
