TAWANDA MAFUVA loves posing for the camera, just like any other model, but the 1, 9 meter tall guy has parked modelling as he pursues his other love – volleybal

The South African based 31-year-old has done adverts for brands such as Jameson, Vodacom and Castle Lager. However, that glittering career has been put on pause.

The towering attacker is in Kladno, Czech Republic for trials.

“I got connected to an agent through a friend of mine, and after seeing my videos and volleyball profile, the agent then arranged for trials with a few clubs here in Czech,” Mafuva told The Sunday Mail Sport last week.

“Kladno Volleyball Club is the host club, it plays in the A League and came second last season. Trials will be for at least three weeks, with at least three teams around Czech. The Zimbabwe international is still adapting to the Czechs quick play.

“The game is fast and also they don’t use the normal Mikasa balls we use back home, so I’m still adjusting to that. But it’s beautiful here.

“The food is good, I have been having lots of protein and staying hydrated is essential.  said Mafuva. The lanky attacker plays for University of Western Cape in South Africa where he is now conspicuous by his absence at fashion shows and advert shoots.

“I am into many things. I studied at Vaal University of Technology for a Diploma in Sport Management and a Degree in Business Administration.

“I also do commercial, fashion and print modelling but that has taken a back seat as l pursue volleyball,” revealed the former Churchill Bulldogs player, who started playing volleyball at the age of 16.

“At first it was just for the fun of it but I got hooked when I was chosen for the inaugural youth games back in 2003, where we won gold.
