The late liberation war hero and Assistant Director (Planning and Coordination Unit) in the President’s office, Cde Moses Ncube was yesterday laid to rest at his homestead in Zvishavane, with senior Government officials describing him as a loyal and hardworking cadre.

Cde Ncube passed away last Sunday after failing to fully recover from a stroke that he suffered in 2015.

He was 55.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa conferred liberation war hero status on Cde Ncube.

Addressing mourners at the burial ceremony in Busvumani Village under Chief Masunda, Minister of State Security Cde Owen Ncube said President Mnangagwa highly regarded Cde Ncube for serving the department with distinction.

“On behalf of the President’s Department, we convey our deepest heartfelt condolences to the Ncube family on the untimely death of their beloved son.

“His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has also sent his message of condolence to the Ncube family,” he said.

Minister Ncube went on: “Today we are gathered at the Ncube homestead who was declared a provincial hero by His Excellency, the President of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the (Zimbabwe) Defence Forces, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“We are gathered here to pay our respects to one of the gallant sons of the soil,” he said.

Minister Ncube said the late liberation hero remained principled notwithstanding the pervasive influence of the G40 cabal, which was trying to contaminate the ruling party.

“The department has lost a dedicated cadre who was a fountain of wisdom, a man who was not moved by storms, but one who stood bold against all odds.

“The G40 cabal wanted to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle but that did not contaminated him.”

Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs, Cde Larry Mavhima said Cde Ncube’s death was a big loss to the province.

“On behalf of the Midlands community, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the Ncube family. Having known Cde Ncube for many years, I am deeply saddened that he has left us at such an age. He helped me get into the political arena. We were together from the time his health started deteriorating,” he said.

The late Cde Ncube was born on December 10, 1963 and joined the President’s Department on June 23, 1986.

He rose through the ranks to become Divisional Intelligence Officer in 1999.

In 2000, the organisation appointed him as its Liaison Officer in Russia before he returned and was promoted to Provincial Intelligence Officer (Midlands) in 2006.

In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Director. Later on, he served as Assistant Director for the Planning and Cordination Unit.

Cabinet Ministers July Moyo and Winston Chitando, Deputy Director-General in the President’s Department Mr Aaron Nhepera, several Members of Parliament and other Government officials attended the burial.
