‘Herentals don’t need Chunga’

The Sunday Mail

NEWLY crowned Northern Region Division One side Herentals say they will retain faith in the coaches and players who won them a ticket into the big time.

Speculation has linked Moses “Bambo” Chunga with the Harare side but Herentals director Innocent Benza dismissed the claims saying he has faith in current coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva.“We have enough resources in our technical department.

Mutiwekuziva has a CAF A licence and his assistant Simba Benza has the same qualification.

Our goalkeepers’ coach Tsungie Mudzamiri is also very competent, so there is no vacancy,” said Benza.

“Chunga is always at our games and enjoys our type of play hence the speculation but we have no plans to shake up our technical team.

I don’t even think Chunga would want to join us.”Benza is also unlikely to open his cheque book come January as he believes his squad has adequate quality to stand the heat in the top flight league.

“Unfortunately, we will not acquire any new players. Let those who fought for this qualification enjoy the fruits of their sweat,” he said.

The 45-year-old Benza, who has scored two goals for Herentals this season, declared that his name will be the first on the team’s Premiership squad list.

“I want to make history and become the oldest player to play and score in the Premier Soccer League next season,” he said.“It’s not really about chasing records or trying to rewrite history.

The fact is I feel strong enough to play for a couple of seasons in the PSL.

“I have featured in all our games this season and scored two goals plus plenty of assists so why should I stop now? Just like the rest of the players I am looking forward to playing against the big boys of Zimbabwean football.”
