Chimuriwo’s brilliant study advice

The Sunday Mail

HIGH school is one of the most difficult hurdles to jump — and crossing that stage is cherished by many.
This phase in life comes with many challenges, with students trying their best to grasp that which will propel them to the next level.
When I was in high school, I found it difficult to find the proper study formula and unless you had a mentor, it meant you had to cook up your own game plan in order to get good results.
These days, things have changed with the penetration of the Internet, which presents platforms that assist students to study more effectively.
Besides the Internet, there is a crop of motivational speakers and life coaches who have been publishing books that are very helpful to students.
One such individual is Tinashe Chimuriwo, whose “Shock the Nation” contains brilliant insights and advice for secondary school students on how they can harvest knowledge.
In the book, Chimuriwo tackles several aspects relating to the life of a student and how one can tackle these.
The book also gives insight on exams, highlighting what to be expected and how students can successfully handle this ordeal. Motivation is usually the key to unlocking the doors of potential and the author also threw in some motivational pieces in the text to inspire the students who will get the opportunity to set their eyes on this book.
Some of the things said to be of importance in the learning process include vision, attitude, time management, preparation, friendships, study and research, among other things.
The writer points out that students who want to pass should start by developing a vision of where they want to be in the future. Developing a vision will propel an individual to study harder in order to ensure that they fulfil their set goals.
Many students have different views about the importance of education and this in turn affects their studies in various ways.
Those who believe that education does not benefit them in any way are more likely to neglect their studies and the probability of them not being successful in life is very high.
Chimuriwo goes on to elaborate on the attitude factor, highlighting that students should develop positive attitudes towards education.
Attitude is said to have a relationship with academic results, which means having a positive view of education will in turn yield positive results.
Another important aspect the writer looked at was exam preparation and execution, which is basically one of the most important phases of any academic level.
This book could prove to be a very helpful tool in providing guidelines and tips for students who are either sitting for ordinary or advanced level exams.
However, the text is too generalised with the author failing to spice up his work and this in turn leads to the book being a boring read. Despite the benefits that could be ripped from reading the book, there is a high probability that one could lose interest along the way.
