Zimbabwe spinner Prosper Utseya’s bowling action has been found illegal by the International Cricket Council dealing a major blow to Zimbabwe’s preparations for their forthcoming tour of Bangladesh.

Usteya was reported for a suspect bowling action in the third ODI versus South Africa at Queens Sports Club in August.

According to a release from ZC, the International Cricket Council ICC has found Utseya’s and Bangladesh’s off-spinner Sohag Gazi’s actions to be illegal.

Gazi was reported for a suspect action after the second ODI against West Indies in St George’s also in August.

Both bowlers have been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect, but they can apply for re-assessment after modifying their bowling actions in accordance with clause 2.4 of the Regulations for the review of bowlers reported with suspected illegal bowling actions.

Zimbabwe Cricket in a statement said:

“The International Cricket Council today confirmed that an independent analysis has found the bowling actions of Bangladesh’s Sohag Gazi and Zimbabwe’s Prosper Utseya to be illegal and, as such, both off-spinners have been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.

“The analysis revealed that all of their deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.”

“The analysis was performed on 19 September by the ICC’s accredited team of Human Movement Specialists using the Cardiff Metropolitan University.”

Zimbabwe is set to tour Bangladesh for three Tests and Five ODIs and they leave for the Sub Continent country next Thursday.
