Thanks to the Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision, awareness of male reproductive health issues is gaining momentum and we are witnessing a lot of men’s clinics opening their doors, especially in Harare.

Issues dealing with men’s health that were ironically difficult to address in a patriarchal society are now getting easier to discuss on different platforms.

While it is somewhat difficult to have statistics on the number of men with reproductive health problems, it seems from the look of things that there are a lot of men affected especially the older generations.

There are certain conditions including prostate disorders, impotence and other sexual dysfunctions that are specific to men.

Despite these challenges to their health, men tend to ignore the symptoms, are less likely to visit their doctors for advice, and may be especially reluctant to ask for help when they notice abnormalities.

The good news is that many of the diseases and health conditions that men face can be prevented or treated if detected early.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is one of the common problems in men and is the repeated inability to get or keep an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse.

In older men, ED has a physical cause, such as disease, injury, or side effects of drugs. Diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, chronic alcoholism, atherosclerosis, vascular disease and neurologic disease account for about 70 percent of ED.

Experts believe that psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, guilt, depression, low self esteem, and fear of sexual failure cause 10 to 20 percent of ED cases.

Most physicians suggest that treatments proceed from least to most invasive. For some men, making a few healthy lifestyle changes may solve their problem.

Quitting smoking, losing excess weight, and increasing physical activity may help some men regain sexual function.

Premature ejaculation (PE) is the most common type of sexual dysfunction in men younger than 40-years-old. Most professionals who treat PE define this condition as the occurrence of ejaculation prior to the wishes of both sexual partners.

This broad definition thus avoids specifying a precise duration for sexual relations and reaching climax, which is variable and depends on many factors specific to the individuals engaging in intimate relations.

In most cases PE does matter, because it makes people unhappy and frustrated. And in severe cases it can threaten or ruin a marriage simply because it spoils the sex lives of both partners. Sometimes, the condition is so bad the man can’t have sex because he ejaculates before he can get into the vagina.

This can be devastating for a man’s self confidence. And it can be hugely frustrating and annoying for his partner especially if she wants to get pregnant.

Apart from psychotherapy, counselling, modifying lifestyle and western medicine like Viagra there are alternatives that have proved to help so much with minimal or less side effects.

These include acupuncture, acupressure, and a variety of herbal teas and capsules.

Herbal products improve quality of sexual intercourse, improve sexual desire, and helps men to achieve and sustain a strong and full erection thus solving the problem of PE.

Ginkgo Biloba is a herb that dramatically improves sexual endurance, vitality, alertness, clarity and promotes strong blood flow into the penis, resulting in a much larger and harder erection while Golden Knight spray increases sexual stamina and helps relieve premature ejaculation effectively.

The beneficial properties of ginseng were first recognised by the ancient Chinese nearly 5 000 years ago, it became revered for its strength-giving and rejuvenating powers, and its human shape was considered to be a powerful symbol of “divine harmony on earth”.

By the third century AD China’s demand for ginseng created international trade in the root. Science today is proving what the Chinese and other healers have known for millenniums, that ginseng can help boost energy, improve sexual performance and stamina.

Vigpower capsules which contain Cuscutae, Fructus Lycii (Gou Qi Zi) and other herbal extracts replenish the liver and kidney essence, enhances sexual pleasure, and is suitable for men with sexual dysfunction such as premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction.

Studies have shown that it has positive effects on sperm health, count and motility.

Kidney meridian at the viewpoint of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the one that governs sexual and reproductive functions and provide the body with vitality and therefore “kidney deficiency” is sighted as a major contributor to men’s reproductive health problems.

Kidney tonyfing capsules invigorate the kidney, improve kidney function, removes toxins accumulated in the kidneys and improves sexuality in men.
