A case of troubled Lloyds

SOMETHING is going on with the two Lloyds from Harare, Mutasa of Dynamos and Chitembwe of Caps United.

For reasons we can only speculate about, the pair has been behaving like little kids – the one from DeMbare crying like a toddler and the Makepekepe one not in the best of moods.

However, my problems with Mutasa and Chitembwe are as different as the two coaches’ pigment.

My issue with Mutasa is not that he cried, like a kindergarten kid who had lost his toy, after Dynamos fell 0-1 to FC Platinum despite being the better team at the National Sports Stadium last Sunday.

Look, some ladies love men who show their emotional side, men who don’t act all macho and pretend to be fine when there is a fire raging inside them.

And crying comes with its own benefits.

It releases toxins, kills bacteria, improves vision, eases stress and boosts communication, because tears deliver the message home when words fail.

I know Samaita has been lampooned in some circles for crying after that defeat to Pure Platinum Play, but have you noticed how the DeMbare fans have replaced their condemnation of him with sympathy?

The DeMbare coach delivered a message with those tears.

The Dynamos faithful’s story has suddenly changed from Lodza is not a good coach to “you know what? Mutasa is good but he just lacks the luck that the other coaches have”.

But the issue of luck or lack of it is none of my business – at least for today – because my gripe with Samaita is the treasonous way in which he spoiled his dress code last Sunday.

Mutasa chose a light blue slim-fit suit for the season opener and he looked on point until the moment one came across the white socks he was wearing.

Excuse my grammar, but for the why Samaita?

The colour of the socks must match the colour of the pants, that’s the golden rule of dressing and the coach of the biggest club in Zimbabwe must know that.

Unless Mutasa is trying to be Michael Jackson, having dumped the Madzibaba movement sometime last year.

Hopefully the DeMbare gaffer will continue bringing swag to the technical bench and not get rid of suits when the going gets tough like what some guy called Moses “Bambo” Chunga did towards the end of last season.

Now what is up with Chitembwe?

The Caps United coach has been in some moody zone for some time now. Chitembwe’s post-match interviews have some heat.

I heard the one on Star FM soon after Makepekepe played a goalless draw with Shabanie Mine at Maglas last weekend.

“History is not important, we don’t want to look at history because this belongs to the archives,” said the Caps United coach.

We all know things haven’t been well at Makepekepe but Chitembwe should be the last person to lose his cool. Brighter days are on the horizon with the Caf Champions League set to resume next month.

In the build-up to Makepekepe’s home clash with TP Mazembe last month, the Caps United coach was also accused of being sullen during a media conference.

But on this one can understand Chitembwe.

How do you expect a guy to show enthusiasm when he gets asked the same useless questions each time he comes to the pre-match rite?

How is morale in camp? What do you promise your fans? With such inane questions the order of the day, even Mother Theresa would have snapped.
