CHAPUNGU hitman Tinei Chitora scored his ninth goal of the season before veteran striker Limited Chikafa equalized for hosts ZPC Kariba in an action packed Premiership match played before a good crowd at Nyamhunga yesterday.
Chitora opened the scores after 11 minutes of play when he reacted swiftly to Philip Marufu’s defence splitting pass before he slotted past Tendai Hove.
Second half substitute Chikafa leveled matters in the 71st minute when he blasted home from close range after he was set up by Raphael Manuvire.
ZPC Kariba coach Sunday Chidzambwa made three substitutions in the second half bringing on Pride Tafirenyika, Chikafa and Leonard Fiyado for Stephen Sheshe, Tawanda Nyamande and Russell Madamombe respectively.
The move paid off as the hosts began to exert more influence and it was not long before the pressure paid off.
Chitora had a chance to double his tally in the 56th minute but he chose to pass the ball to Marufu when he should have shot straight at a yawning goal.
Marufu blazed his strike over bar.
The former Dynamos striker was then replaced by the forceful Allan Tavarwisa who has formed one of the league’s most deadly partnerships with Chitora.
There was drama in the 60th minute when ZPC Kariba hit the bar twice in a goal mouth melee, first when Dennis Dauda hit the upright before Chikafa’s rebound shot crashed against the cross bar.
ZPC Kariba coach Chidzambwa was disappointed with the draw.
“We wanted the three points to ensure safety. We didn’t play to our best and now we have to find that one more win to avoid relegation.”
His counterpart John Nyikadzino was happy with the draw. “A point away from home is special,” he said.
