DIVERSIFIED media group, Zimpapers, will on November 7 host its annual Cancer Power Walk to raise awareness about the disease, which kills millions of people annually.

According to the World Health Organisation, cancer is the second leading cause of death globally with one in six deaths attributed to it.

This year, the Cancer Power Walk will be held virtually in line with regulations to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Last year, the cancer walk was attended by thousands of people in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and Kariba.

The walk is running under the theme, “I Am and I Will”, and the hashtag is #ZimpapersCancerPowerWalk.

Zimpapers group public relations and corporate affairs manager Ms Beatrice Tonhodzayi paid tribute to corporates and individual sponsors who have partnered the organisation to make the walk a success.

Said Ms Tonhodzayi: “We are grateful to the Chinese Embassy, Plascon, Meditite Healthcare, and Allan Wack and Shepherd for coming on board. I would also like to thank Zimbabweans at home and abroad who are donating to this cause. Whenever we come together, we make a difference.

“Cancer affects all of us and I would like to call on other corporates and individuals to partner us in this cause for we will make a greater impact that way.”

She said the cancer walk, which is open to all across the world, will run from 6am to 6pm on November 7 2020.

“Let’s come together virtually with our family and friends in Europe, America, China, South Africa and do this. Technology allows it, so let’s go even bigger and colour the world pink.

“By doing so, we will be showing solidarity with those affected by cancer who face a tough time every day with treatment being inaccessible. Let us celebrate the cancer survivors while also honouring those who have died from the disease.”

Ms Tonhodzayi said apart from raising awareness, the event is aimed at encouraging people to adopt exercising as a way of life.

The walk will be fused with runs and Zumba dance hosted by Zororo Nhira, popularly known as Zorro from 8am.

Ms Tonhodzayi urged participants to take pictures and videos of their walk/run and Zumba sessions, and upload them onto the Zimpapers online platforms.

She encouraged people to like the Zimpapers Facebook and Twitter pages and join the Cancer Power Walk event online. Lucky participants will win exciting prizes.

Zimpapers has this year scrapped registration fees and is inviting donations and sponsorship.

Individuals and corporates who wish to donate in cash or in kind can contact Pauline Matanda on 0715679405/0772977931, email [email protected]. For monetary deposits well-wishers can use FBC Bank, account number 3132517010192 or EcoCash merchant code 019201.”
