ZIMPAPERS journalists Kuda Bwititi, Africa Moyo and Gibson Mhaka scooped the Gold, Diamond Sector, and Small-Scale and Artisanal Reporter of the Year awards at the Mining Media Awards held on Friday in Harare.

The Sunday Mail Chief Reporter, Bwititi, was named the Gold Sector Reporter of the Year and walked away with a certificate and a trophy.

Moyo, who writes for Business Weekly, landed two awards — the Diamond Sector Best Reporter, and runner-up in the Gold Sector category. He received a trophy and certificates for the two categories.

Another Zimpapers journalist, Gibson Mhaka of The Chronicle, scooped the Small-Scale and Artisanal Mining award and also got a trophy and a certificate; bringing to four accolades won by writers from Zimbabwe’s leading media house at the ceremony. Moyo paid tribute to The Sunday Mail editor Mabasa Sasa and former Business Editor, Darlington Musarurwa.

“I want to thank God for these awards. Let me also salute my bosses Sasa and Musarurwa — who is now deputy news editor at The Herald — for transforming my journalism career. “Musarurwa would always help with story ideas when the going got tough while Sasa would bring an angle that I would not have imagined. I urge the bosses to continue helping other journalists so that they live their dreams,” said Moyo.

Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa, who was guest of honour, told reporters to report truthfully.

The minister said it was unfair for scribes to focus on negative stories, adding that reporters with such proclivities should “write at least one positive story per week”.
