At least 150 Zimbabwean students will leave the country in September to go and study in various fields at Chinese universities after a local communication and training consultant successfully facilitated their placements.

There has been growing socio-economic interactions between Zimbabwe and China and education is now proving to be one the areas in which the two countries share close relations.

It is in the wake of such developments that SOZS Communication Training Consultancy (CTC) has facilitated the placement of Zimbabwean students in Asian universities especially China.

This is also in tandem with the Government’s Look East policy which has proved to be fruitful since its inception in 2003.

At a pre-departure seminar and luncheon held for the students by the consultancy last week, SOZS CTC educational and corporate consultant, Mr Cleto Mhuru, said it was good for Zimbabwean students to tap into China’s knowledge which has seen the Asian country become one of the world’s fastest growing economies.“China has got the fastest growing economy in the world and if our students can tap into their knowledge then Zimbabwe can go through rapid development of its own,” he said.

“This September we have a total of 125 students going to study abroad in various fields like Clinical Medicine, International Law, Engineering, Aviation, etc Out of 125 students, we have 14 on partial scholarships.”Some Chinese nationals at the event encouraged Zimbabwean students to learn Chinese language and culture to make themselves marketable since China is now one of the dominant countries in the world.“I encourage you to learn Chinese language while you are doing your studies there, it helps to expand your network and make yourself marketable,” said Miss Li Ning Ning, a Chinese lecturer at the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe.Students expressed their excitement to go and study in China while also learning the language and the culture of the Chinese people.

“I am excited to be going to study in China, it is an opportunity for me to learn a new language and a new culture,” said one student only identified as Sebastian.

CTC has for the past seven years helped over 1 200 Zimbabwean students and professionals secure university vacancies abroad.
