DHL Western Province yesterday scored five tries en-route to a convincing bonus-point 33-13 victory over the Zimbabwe Academy in the Supersport Rugby Challenge at DHL Newlands in Cape Town.

The home side’s bonus-point win was their fourth in four starts to maintain their strangle-hold on the top of the South Section, having scored a maximum of 20 log points after having won the competition in 2017 without losing a match. Province’s scrumhalf, Godlen Masimla, dotted down twice while hooker Chad Solomon, flank Johan du Toit and left wing Edwill van der Merwe notched their names on the try column with flyhalf Abner van Reenen adding four conversions in a workman like performance from the home side.

Zimbabwe, who had only scored three points in the first 68 minutes of the match, managed a solitary and consolatory try through fullback Jafnos Chiwanza while flyhalf Brendon Mandivenga added the conversion and slotted two penalties, recording their fourth straight loss in the competition.

While it was one-way traffic for the larger portion of the match; credit must go to the Academy side who did not give up and were rewared towards the end of the match. Supersport

Fullback Chiwanza finished off an impressive movement, slotting in with the backline to score his side’s only five-pointer of the day 12 minutes from time.

Mandivenga slotted the extra two points and moments later, added his second penalty of the day.
