Zimbabwe and China are working on finding ways to enhance cooperation in the energy sector following a visit by a high-level Zimbabwean delegation to Shanghai to explore possibilities of facilitating further Chinese investments into the local sector.

The delegation was led by Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo, who was accompanied by ZESA executive chairperson Dr Sydney Gata and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

On Thursday, the mission met with a Chinese delegation led by Mr Zhao Baogang, deputy mayor of Weihai City Government in Shandong Province, China, who is also former Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe.
Mr Baogang said there was scope for enhanced cooperation with Zimbabwe in the energy sector.

“Weihai City has a long-term good relationship with Zimbabwe, and we hope to find ways to cooperate.

“Weihai City has a very strong energy industry, including thermal energy, renewable energy, and nuclear energy.

“We have a strong influence in the international market, and Zimbabwe is one of our most important partners, with a good foundation for cooperation between the two sides,” he said.
