ZANU PF recently scooped 20 awards in the Former Liberation Movements of Southern Africa Cadres Workshop essay competition organised by the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Thirty-five political parties took part in the competition, which was held during the workshop in Pwani, Tanzania.

In the contest, participants were asked to write articles on enhancing international cooperation.

Tanzania’s ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) hosted the workshop at the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School.

The winners were announced during a virtual ceremony held on Wednesday, with the ruling party’s deputy secretary for national security, Cde Tendai Chirau, coming in second position.

The CPC is compiling articles on international cooperation, and they are set to be published in the party’s forthcoming book titled “Communist Party of China in the Eye of the International Community”.

Competition winners’ articles will be published in the book.

Cde Chirau, who led the ZANU PF delegation to the workshop, said the stellar performance highlights the high calibre of leaders in the ruling party.

“It is an honour for us to have been the biggest winner and we are elated by the development,” he said.

“This shows that the relationship between the CPC and ZANU PF, which dates back to the liberation struggle, continues to grow in leaps and bounds.”

China, he added, remains Zimbabwe’s all-weather friend, as the two countries continue to work towards common goals.

He emphasised the need for former liberation movements to maintain cordial relations at the highest level.

“We are continuously amplifying and cementing the relations, not only with China but also with former liberation movements that also attended the workshop, because the focus of the meeting was to learn from each other.

“We hope that we will continue working together through President Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement drive.

“We hope that such exchange programmes continue to be promoted between China and Zimbabwe,” he said.

ZANU PF and CPC, he said, prioritise people-centred policies. Other notable winners included the party’s director for external affairs, Cde Gamuchirai Mangundu; Harare Province Youth League chairperson Cde Emmanuel Mahachi; Cde Richard Mahomva; Cde Charles Nyamundanda; and Cde Bridget Motsinemhara.
