THEY both answer to the name Tinashe but when in the ring one calls himself the Chairman while the other reckons he is the Punisher.

They share the same stable and both are bidding to become the new Super Bantamweight champion of Zimbabwe.

Their bout is the main attraction of the “King of the Ghetto” boxing splash set for the Mbare Netball Complex in Mbare on Saturday.

Tinashe “Chairman” Madziwane, a crowd favourite, will square off against Tinashe “The Punisher” Mutodza in the main event of the eight bout card organised by local boxing promotions Delta Force.

The curtain raiser to this national title fight will be the heavyweight clash between Collen “Nyamambishi” Mavhundutse and Simon “Undertaker” Madhanhire.

Sponsors of the event, Gypsite, are importing a brand new boxing ring from South Africa and the show organiser Clyde Musonda of Delta Force Boxing Academy is confident of delivering a night to remember.

“It has been long since a local boxing promotions company hosted a tournament in this country and as Delta Force we are proud of hosting such an event,” said Musonda.

“It’s going to be an interesting night, especially the main bout featuring Madziwane and Mutodza because these are the brightest prospects in the bantamweight section.

We also want to thank Gypsite for rescuing boxing from the intensive care unit.”

A spokesperson for the bout’s sponsors said they are determined to see Zimbabwe producing world boxing champions.

“This is just the starting point, we want to spread these tournaments to all the ghettos before hosting the mother of them all in the capital,” said Clemence Zingoni.

“Boxing is as good as dead, it has been playing second fiddle to other sports yet it has always produced stars who have put Zimbabwe on the international map.

“Langton Tinago, Proud “Kilimanjaro” Chinembiri, Arifonso Zvenyika and Charles Manyuchi have all raised the national flag in different weight categories. As a result, we want to assist local boxing promoters like Delta Force to revive boxing in the country.”
