STORIES of Ronald “Gidiza” Sibanda being reported missing by his mother and Wicknell Chivayo heading for Guinea when the Warriors were still stuck in Harare caught my attention.
Clearly Gidiza hasn’t changed one teeny bit; he still goes Awol like he used to do during his Warriors days; while Chivayo seems to have forgotten that he promised to bankroll the Warriors all the way to Gabon 2017.
If we may start with Gidiza, the former national team playmaker who is slowly making his name as a pundit on Star FM.
It was reported that the greatest passer of the ball my eyes have ever seen left home last Sunday saying he was going to watch the Highlanders-How Mine clash at Barbourfields.
But it turns out Gidiza and the friend who came to pick him up never made their way to BF and by Wednesday the pair had neither been seen nor heard from.
His worried mother had to file a missing person’s report; The Chronicle picked it up and published the story Thursday.
“As a grown-up person I inwardly told myself that perhaps that he was somewhere with a girlfriend but when the whole day passed I began to worry a bit,” said Sithokozile Sibanda as she commented on the disappearance of her married son.
As fate would have it our good friend Gidiza called his mom on the day the story was published to inform her that he was fine and was making his way from Beitbridge.
As I mused over the Gidiza story there were growing signs that all was not well in the Warriors camp: departure dates and times kept being changed.
It is then that I began wondering about the whereabouts of Wicknell Munodaani Chivayo, the fellow who vowed to oil the Warriors 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying journey.
The guy, never difficult to miss as big as he is, has been a permanent feature in the Warriors Afcon qualification campaign.
However, as Kallisto Pasuwa fine-tuned his men for the clash against Guinea, the controversial Chivayo was conspicuous by his loud silence.
A friend claimed Chivayo’s purse was not as obese as it used to be as a result of some decisions at the Zimbabwe Power Company hence his going mum in the Warriors’ hour of need.
As the Warriors struggled to secure their travel arrangements my huge friend struck through Facebook on Thursday, announcing that he was headed for Conakry to watch the national team in action.
But this time there was no bragging about how he was going to spend thousands to make sure the boys were well catered for, just the usual nonsense that we have come to expect.
“The boss himself is headed to Guinea Conakry to watch the boys play … As much as this is more like a friendly match to us losing should never be an option. I’ve never had so many stops on one flight to one destination. On a more serious note this has made me consider just buying a private jet.
“I will never ever stop supporting the Warriors no matter what you say. I’ve just accepted closed minded and broke people have the most opinions but at the end of the day I can’t make everyone happy,” said Chivayo.
Dude, we all support the Warriors but we never promised them a million bucks – you did.
