WHAWHA capitalised on Sheasham’s slip and returned to the Premier Soccer League after winning the Central Region Division One title on the last day of the campaign yesterday.

Veteran coach John Nyikadzino came into the game looking for a record extension to three Division One league titles.

However, his Sheasham were denied the chance by lowly Dulibadzimu United’s unlikely ambush in Beitbridge, which cost him another title.

Sheasham came into the game with a two-point advantage over second placed WhaWha.  The prison warders won the game 2-0 against Shabanie Mine in Zvishavane and Sheasham failed to avoid defeat.

Munyaradzi Chirape scored early in the first half to condemn Sheasham to second tier football next season.

For WhaWha coach Luke Petros Jukulile, his elevation equals Nyikadzino’s achievements in Division one.

Jukulile won the title with WhaWha before, and has equalled Nyikadzino who won it twice with Chapungu and Nichrut.

A stunned Nyikadzino could not believe that his side’s chances had melted in the Bietbridge heat.

“I am very disappointed and such results are hard to take, but that is part of football.

“It is not about me or individual awards, but collective success.

“We have to move on and prepare for next season. The executive has worked hard but unfortunately we failed.

“Some of our supporters travelled to support us. I am sorry we failed to give them the success they needed,” said Nyikadzino.
