ZIMBABWEANS will continue defending and advancing the gains of the country’s hard-fought liberation struggle for the benefit of current and future generations, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere has said.

In an interview during the Independence Gala held at Murambinda, Manicaland province, last week, Dr Muswere said under the Second Republic, thousands of high-impact projects had been completed, signalling the Government’s resolve to uplift people’s lives and livelihoods.

“As a people, we are committed to defending, advancing and protecting the gains of our liberation struggle.

“Under the leadership of His Excellency, the President (Mnangagwa), over 7 000 projects have been completed, with the majority of them commissioned,” he said.

The projects, Dr Muswere said, span various sectors, such as mining, energy and infrastructure development.

“Some of the projects are in energy, mining and various infrastructure projects, which include the Beitbridge-Masvingo road, the Beitbridge-Harare road, the construction of Marovanyati Dam, Muchekeranwa Dam . . . and many other projects that have been registered as we journey towards an upper middle-income society by 2030, which is economically empowered,” he added.

In his Independence Day address, President Mnangagwa said the values that led the nation to attain freedom, territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence must be promoted for the realisation of Vision 2030.

“Zimbabwe shall forever remain a democratic and constitutional nation,” said the President.

“We fought for this democracy. We are a united and peace-loving country.”

He said Zimbabwe continued to register accelerated economic growth, even as it remained under illegal economic sanctions.

“The overall economic outlook remains bright,” added the President. “Our country’s GDP (gross domestic product) now exceeds US$47 billion, up from US$16 billion in 2018.

“This shows that we, descendants of the Great Munhumutapa, are resilient, focused, determined and hard working people. Zimbabwe is winning.”
