vaSHAGARE: When the truth is difficult to handle! Sunday Mail

The Sunday Mail

CONGRATULATIONS to the new Zifa boss.
So Highlanders coach Amini Soma Phiri has a big bone to chew with The Sunday Mail’s Langton Nyakwenda as events at last Monday’s Soccer Star of the Year selection meeting proved.
I have my own thoughts about the man and the way the councillors voted but what’s the point about dwelling over history?
Life goes on, it should.
So Highlanders coach Amini Soma Phiri has a big bone to chew with The Sunday Mail’s Langton Nyakwenda as events at last Monday’s Soccer Star of the Year selection meeting proved.
I am told the Bosso gaffer sought out Nyakwenda from the scores of journalists that had gathered at Mandel Training Centre to do a good job of selecting the 2015 Soccer Stars of the Year.
Phiri did not take lightly to this piece of work by the scribe: “Their (Bosso) new coach, Amini Soma Phiri, doesn’t inspire confidence. Neither does his dressing. Clad in an oversized black suit and a white head gear Soma-Phiri looked uncomfortable and confused in his first game away to Harare City.”
The gaffer believes Nyakwenda shot below the belt and has since made it a point not to speak to this publication as Ishemunyoro Chingwere found out on Friday night.
“Why do you want to speak to me when there are a lot of coaches with good fitting suits in this room? Leave me alone with my funny dressing,” was Soma Phiri’s response to an interview request.
The guy must be really angry.
But was the suit that Phiri wore for the game against Harare City oversized?
Yes sir, it was but there is
no need to take things personally.
Look at Kenny Ndebele; he is a pro at taking criticism within his stride.
Ndebele, who is in my thoughts as he mourns the passing on of his father, is a fine football administrator but appreciates that he deserves to have everything, including the kitchen sink, thrown at when he argues that the PSL cannot reveal how each panelist voted during the Soccer Stars of the Year selection process
“because Zimbabweans are very passionate about football and some will take it personally.”
The truth is something that most of us cannot handle hence our penchant to try and build our own through half truths and outright lies.
Propaganda they call it.
Look at the Caps United corporate dinner for example, that thing was a disaster and no matter how many pictures the club’s board member for marketing Alois Bunjira posts on Facebook the fact still remains that Makepekepe could have done better.
For starters the Green Machine could have made much noise about their dinner through adverts in the press and having club owner Farai Jere appealing directly to the corporate world.
To expect chief executive Joe Makuvire or Bunjira to woo blue chip company executives is expecting too much from two little men in as far as the world of business is concerned.
One team that has been using words to create their own fantasy world are Dynamos.
What was Kenny Mubaiwa harping on about DeMbare leading a move to start a splinter league with teams such as Shabanie Mine and other “disgruntled PSL teams’’?
The administrator who dresses like the rap star Snoop Dog or Ras Snoop – whatever he is calling himself these days – sounds like a man high on something.
Maybe a concoction of palm leaves and cough mixture?
Yes Dynamos flexed their muscles and got their way over the Rodreck Mutuma and Takesure Chinyama suspension but they should not start believing that they can do anything under the sun.
If Mubaiwa is not happy about the way Twine Phiri and his team are running the PSL they should just mobilise to vote the man and his board out at the next election.
