CAN I prophecy, Zimbabwe?

. . . Thank you for that rousing “Yes papa, go deeper”.

You know these things are controversial because the last time a prophet — whom I shall not name — said something about the Warriors and things went horribly wrong.

The prophet from Bulawayo said the Warriors would reach the African Nations Championships final in South Africa in January last year after beating Libya 3-0 in the semi-finals.

Well the 3-0 triumph never came and Peter “Rio” Moyo never scored the spectacular goal my brother prophesied.

Instead the former Highlanders man was substituted by then coach Ian “Dibango” Gorowa as he shot from wild distances and angles in a desperate bid to fulfil the prophecy.

However, I am a servant of the Most High: I speaketh what He tells me to speak.

You see children of Zimbabwe, sometimes one can be made to see stuff that is hundreds of years away.

However, this one is just a few hours away. I see a nation whose people have been downbeat over the past six weeks following a Supreme Court ruling that made it easy for employers to dismiss employees wearing broad smiles and waving our national flag with pride.

I ask: “What is this Lord?”

He says: “Look closely Shagare.”

Behold I see a tall man, with a bald head being mobbed by men dressed in yellow. There is joy everywhere.

This man who is a very good coach and had a dream four years at Dynamos, I see him being hoisted into the air while a packed Rufaro chants his name.

What is Kallisto? Is Kallisto, not Callisto, a name? Oh Pasuwa?

Thank you my Lord.

Yes that Kallisto Pasuwa, the one who nearly quit his job after going for months without being paid by Zifa, is on the verge of making another bold statement to the few who still doubt his credentials.

But hours before this game starts, I see this Kallisto guy fasting for this game.

He is not eating and together with his kit manager Pio Mhizha are praying hard and consulting this brother of mine from Chitungwiza.

As they board the team bus, all kitted up and ready to face the demon of Guinea, these guys are relaxed but focused.

The dreadlocked European-based defender, who has been doing the business like no man’s business in the Uefa Europa League with Sparta Praha, has a burning fire inside him.

He wants to do well for his country; he is ready to die for it.

His name spells trouble for us but today the trouble is for them — Nhamoinavo not Nhamoinesu.

For years the nation has heard and read about this Costa Nhamoinesu guy but haven’t had the chance to see him in national colours.

You know us as Zimbabweans, we were quick to say the boy didn’t want to play for the Warriors but forgot that Zifa have a tendency of messing things up.

I think it’s a demon.

No I don’t think I know.

It’s a demon of retrogression and we have to fast and pray hard so that it vacates 53 Livingstone Avenue.

However, on this one Zifa sent the invitation letter on time but Nhamoinesu had to foot his travel bill because the letter arrived minus the ticket.

The boy is here and will play a crucial role this afternoon.

Declarations

As a prophet of the Most High, I declare that this day will be a good one for Zimbabwe and its football.

Any demon, any spirit from Hades that is bent on spoiling this day I curse it in the name of the Holy Lamb.

Let its plans go up in smoke. May the Warriors score goals.

May those punters that have put money on a Warriors win at the betting houses that are sprouting throughout the country get their payouts.

May the charms that Guinea have brought fail to work.

May the spirit of booing our players when the going gets tough not inflict anyone at Rufaro this afternoon.

This prophecy is yours Zimbabwe, receive it. Today is your day.

The day the Warriors will take another step towards the Africa Cup of Nations.

God loves Zimbabwe, He loves the Warriors.

Go Warriors Go!
