VaShagare: Some win for Twine, CAPS United Twine Phiri

The Sunday Mail

ARSENE WENGER is a name that is difficult to pronounce.

Ask Farai Jere, the new Caps United shareholder (not president as yet).

He pronounces it in a way that is so wrong, it’s legendary.

“Wenja,” Jere says of Wenger.

Money cannot buy you everything, can it?

Money cannot get Jere to pronounce the name of the man who has been in charge of his beloved Arsenal for nearly 20 years properly or like most of us.

However, money has brought Jere a good football brand.

Finally, the Harare-based freight executive is calling the shots at Caps United and expectations are high that the Green Machine will get working again.

An all fired-up Makepekepe is good for our football.

Some of us always saw this brighter, greener day coming.

The way things were unravelling at Caps United was so fast and furious.

Twine Phiri could not have possibly kept pace with it all.

Industrial action had become the order of the day, while coach Mark Harrison always spoke like a man who is operating in a war-torn country.

The Englishman used every interview to shout May Day.

One wonders what Harrison will be talking about now after Phiri finally saw the light and agreed to turn the debt he owed Jere into equity.

The drama at Caps United might have taken some jewels off Phiri’s crown as a fine football administrator, but the man still remains a great asset.

A great asset that can be trusted with being the next Zifa boss after the imminent exit of Cuthbert Dube.

The problem that Phiri had at Caps United was a result of a dwindling wallet.

Without solid financial footing, one cannot expect to run a professional football team.

At Zifa we will not need his money, but the expertise that has seen him transform the Premier Soccer League into a fledging brand.

For years, Phiri has been viewed as one of Dube’s several bootlickers, but events over the past three months have seen the Makepekepe soon-to-be vice president proving to be his own man.

Twine Phiri the Caps United vice president?

It will take some time to get used to that one.

It will also take some time, or eternity, to believe that Jere was not in contact with Nhamo Tutisani and Lewis Uriri as the pair pushed for Caps United’s provisional liquidation over a $143 000 debt.

The High Court application pushing for the liquidation has since been withdrawn; Uriri is now the Caps United chairman and Tutisani the new board member responsible for operations.

Jere is the new Caps United majority shareholder, the biggest winner of a war that had Uriri and Tutisani as the foot soldiers.

We will learn a lot this year and there is danger that when it’s all said and done we will all be answering to the name Ruzive Ruzive.

Ruzive Ruzive is the name of that referee who shamed us at Cosafa.

Having Cuthbert Dube as the national football shame is enough on its own.

Now Ruzive, too?

Oh God help thy soul!

Someone close this gate!

Guthrie Zhokinyi is a free man after Zifa cleared him over the Asiagate match fixing scandal.

The former Dynamos man joins Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa and Edmore “ZiKeeper” Sibanda in the league of the recently cleared men.

Zifa’s climb down came after Zhokinyi, through his lawyer Stephen Zvinavakobvu, took his matter to the High Court , under case number hc 2700-15 seeking “to have the proceedings that were done by the Respondent (Zifa) relating to what is called the Asiagate Match Fixing Scandal and everything that was done pursuant to that declared a nullity . . .

Zifa have been told over and over again that their case is weak and cannot stand scrutiny.

This Zhokinyi episode is testimony.

A decision has to be made to close this Asiagate investigation because it’s a sheer waste of time.

Matches might have been flogged in Asia, but it’s difficult to prove now.

Let’s close this chapter and move on.

What about those who benefited financially from the scam?

Well, they are scumbags who have no shame.

VaShagare exits the scene.
