BOOM!

The year 2015 is here. I prophesy and decree this will be a good year, surely goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives.

And Jesus said: “Behold I give you power.”

If the reader is as sharp as I think they are then they should easily figure out where VaShagare was when the hour came for 2014 to give way to 2015.

As the year begins everyone has good intentions, isn’t it?

The cheating husband wants to dump his side babes, the disrespectful wife wants to be the perfect ‘‘wifey’’ while the fake prophet wants to stop fleecing poor souls of their bucks and most importantly stop trying to take the Almighty for granted.

Just having good intentions is not good enough.

Ask zifa technical director Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe, who last week announced that Premier Soccer League coaches are now required to possess caf A coaching licences before being allowed to sit on the bench.

Jongwe is on to something.

It’s good. It’s called standardisation. It’s not a new phenomenon. The Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches’ Association, led by Bekhi Nyoni, has been pushing for standardisation for years but has been frustrated by zifa. Now Jongwe comes to zifa, through a controversial appointment, and reignites the debate. However, there is something worrying about the manner Jongwe wants to go about business. The zifa technical director looks to be putting the cart before the horse. The caf A licence is the highest qualification on the continent and for it to be used as the minimum entry requirement is astounding.

Jongwe’s claims that the Confederation of African Football insists that the highest coaching qualification offered in the country should be made mandatory to all top flight gaffers is rather misleading. Ideally that is what caf would want but they are not dull, they are taking it one step at a time.

No one said Jongwe is dull. With just two months before the start of the 2015 season, it is worth asking just how many caf A licence holders do we have in the country at the moment?

What is the rush here? Coaches who do not possess the caf A licence should be given time to acquire the qualification. There should be clarity too on just how much the caf A licence is worth when compared to other qualifications in the world.

How does the caf A licence compare with qualifications from Europe and South America?

Why a guy like Bongani Mafu should be asked to sit for the caf A examination when he holds a better qualification is scandalous?

Good old Jongwe is better advised to have an indaba with zisca and other relevant bodies as he seeks to chart a way forward. He means well. He just needs to think it over well too. It will be super for Supa

Supa Mandiwanzira is an inspiration to many, the man rose from being a journalist at ZBC to a media mogul and now a Cabinet minister. And he looks set to make a step into footballing territory as he is being linked with taking over the franchise of the newly promoted Buffalo Juniors, or Rusape Saw Mills, whatever the name is.

Mandiwanzira, a Member of Parliament for Nyanga, is said to have made serious offers for the franchise and those close to the goings-on say the team will most likely be named Nyanga United.

Now that will be super for Supa and the Nyanga community. For daring to plunge into a game that many a businessman — Joe Sengeredo, Eric Rosen and Douglas Tanyanyiwa, etc — blame for their fall from grace, Supa Mandiwanzira is the 18-area.coms football personality of the week.

Just like the word, Premiership action has to be taken to all corners of the country. I hope Tsholotsho FC are getting their act together as well. PSL football business is no joke, it can make you broke.
