TODAY is St Valentine’s Day. The colour red, roses and chocolates are the order of the day as couples celebrate love. The Sunday Mail Leisure caught up with a number of celebrities who shared their thoughts on the day.

This is a special day. People get to showcase love on a deeper level so I believe partners should treat each other in a special way. I know that this is a leap year and as ladies we are supposed to be the ones treating our men but as for me, there will not be much of a difference because every year I make it a point to spoil my man one way or the other.

Unfortunately, we are doing a live broadcast out of town so I will not be able to do anything special on the day but I will definitely do something when I come back. We are entertainers and I believe it is our duty to give couples something to cheer about on their special day.

This day comes once a year so even if we always do something for our loved ones, I think on Valentine’s we should go the extra mile.

We are always buying women presents and spoiling them but I think this year they should also do something for us, ngavambotengawo. I will not be able to celebrate the day with my other half but will do so with my fans because I have two shows in the capital, so I will have to make it up probably on Tuesday.

I think any excuse to show love to someone you care about is always welcome and I believe that many lovers out there will be giving each other special treatment.

I know that there is this talk about this year being a leap year and ladies treating their men what-what, but I think that women should just spoil their men every single year.

This year I have decided to do something special for my fans so I have partnered with Tytan to run a competition called “Mukoko Magic” on Facebook where men are supposed to post videos either on my wall or on Tytan’s telling their ladies how much they love them. Two lucky couples are going to get free manicures, pedicures and a romantic dinner.

I know that this is a special day but I have not planned anything yet but we might just do something simple like going out for a movie or lunch. We have already been invited to a fundraising dinner dance at Long Chen Plaza on Saturday (yesterday), so I guess that will be our pre-valentine’s celebration.

Valentine’s is not part of our culture and it is something that came with the westerners but since we are now living in a global community we have embraced it. Personally, I do not have a problem with it but what bothers me is the fact that the day has now been heavily commercialised, with most people setting up parameters as to the dress codes, colours, activities, the types of presents and so on.

As a writer and poet, I believe people should think outside the box when making Valentine’s Day plans and not to limit themselves to buying red roses and red underwear or any of those things that people normally do on the day.

We should not copy how people celebrate Valentine’s in Hollywood but should explore other avenues and come up with original ideas. I also think that we should celebrate love every day and not just wait for February 14 to come so as to show each other our affection.

Valentine’s is one of those special days where people just showcase how they appreciate each other and this year the ladies have been given the opportunity to also treat their men.

As for me, I am single so I will not have anything to celebrate. I do not have any specific plan for Valentine’s but it’s a Sunday so I will just go to church.

I will be home with my kid because I am not a big fan of Valentine’s Day.

Being a girl, I am obviously a big fan of Valentine’s Day and what I can tell you is that I already have something special lined up. As for who is treating who, it has always been both ways in my relationship so I do not see anything changing this year. The other thing to take note of is the fact that when you are in a good relationship, every day is Valentine’s.

Every day should be an occasion for showing love and appreciation to your partner. I do not really know much about the history of Valentine’s but what bothers me is the fact that it has become too commercialised. Since it’s a day for celebrating love, I will definitely do something for my other half and considering that it’s a leap year, I might also get something.
