United States-based National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts, has set up its base for Africa operations in Zimbabwe by appointing a local expert to head the African Association of Financial Forensic Analysts.

NAVCA recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the founder of Proctor & Associates, Mr Proctor Nyemba, in a development that will offer forensic practitioners the opportunity to crucial qualification, the Master of Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF).

MAFF is a credential that gives assurance to companies that the designee has a level of experience and expertise that is acceptable to the association.

The qualification covers commercial damages and lost profits; matrimonial litigation; bankruptcy, insolvency, and restructuring; business valuation in litigation; business and intellectual property damages; forensic accounting; and fraud risk management.

AAFFA will cover the portfolios in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia. In an interview last week, Mr Nyemba indicated that the appointed was an endorsemont of the economic intelligence of locals.

“The recent appointment is definitely going to benefit the country. There will be pilgrims from the continent who will come for the MAFF, which is a reputed qualification worldwide. What is currently happening in the local economy, especially numerous cases of fraud, shows the urgent need to subscribe to higher audit and forensic qualifications.

“The appointment in itself is an endorsement of the business intellegence of Zimbabweans.

“Though initially the African office was tentatively expected to be headquartered in South Africa, Zimbabwe won the day,” said Mr Nyemba.

Experts say the MAFF programme helps practitioners build the foundation needed to deal with legal or corporate board level support that often enters into agreements or tasks performed within these specialty fields.

Relatedly, AAFFA will in September 2015 host the Forensic Accounting, Forensic Audit and Fraud Examination Conference in Victoria Falls.

The guest of honour will be Vice Chancellor-Great Zimbabwe University, Professor Rungano Zvogbo, while the keynote address will be made by Mr Brien Jones, the vice president of NACVA US.
