Graduating with an accounts degree from the Africa University in 2019, the Kwekwe-based fashion designer surprised many when he opted to go into full-time fashion trade.
But through his fashion house called “Personal Styling”, Maturura has achieved a long-cherished dream.
For him, the love for fashion design dates back to the days when he was still in primary school. “When I was very young, during my primary and later on secondary school days, I was known as a very smart and fashion-conscious guy,” Maturura said.
To realise his dream of becoming a fashionista, he went to South Africa where he enrolled for a course in fashion designing at the Academy of Fashion Styling in Cape Town.
Coming back home, he then started his company which specialises in personal shopping, style statement sessions, wardrobe audits, special event styling and virtual styling.
“Personal Styling” is rapidly making inroads both in the Zimbabwe and South African markets.
He attributed the success to aggressive marketing. “We are living in the digital era and using digital media platforms can be helpful when it comes to the marketing of products. Our aggressive marketing approach is clearly paying dividends,” he said.
He encouraged youths to aim to become employers as opposed to being employees.
“As everyone knows, jobs are difficult to come by these days. I realised that and I started my own thing. I urge tertiary students to focus on job creation as opposed to job seeking,” Maturura said.
