TOUR operators and other businesses in Kariba are gearing up for a brisk business period and have lined up packages for this entire weekend — a weekend where international superstar Dr Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi will spend three days in the resort town.
Tuku arrives in Kariba this Friday where he will visit the resort town’s general hospital before spending time at an orphanage.
Later, he will have dinner at the exquisite Cutty Sark Hotel, a precursor to Saturday’s fete dubbed “A Lakeside Party with Doc Tuku and the Black Spirits”.
Cutty Sark Hotel, which is located at the top of Nzou Drive with a superb view of Lake Kariba and Matusadonha Mountains, is not the only place set to benefit from Tuku’s star power.
Several tour operators and other tourism players have lined up activities around Tuku and Lady Storm’s performance.
Kariba will witnesses another Deputy Sheriff Sale-in-Execution of several houseboats, headlined by the “unique” houseboat, which is likely to bring the businesspeople in search of investment vessels, literally.
They might decide to stay for the weekend, enjoy the Tuku show and the warm Kariba weather.
Operators have gone into overdrive with their campaign, something that is good for the town.
Here are some activities offered in Kariba:
Set off for the pleasure islands of Antelope or Zebra.
Partake in one sundowner activity by tender boat. Meals can be had on-board the houseboat.
Houseboats are available for your selection depending on the size of your group.
Morning activity by tender boat; breakfast on board.
Guided Kariba Highlights Tour, taking in all the impressive sights.

Indeed, Kariba is bracing herself for a bumper crowd in what has been rated as 2016’s biggest Winter Promotion event in the resort town.
If this is not domestic tourism, then what is?
