Trusting in God’s help

“DAVID replied to Saul, ‘Your servant has been a shepherd for his father’s flock. Whenever a lion or bear would come and carry off a sheep from the flock, I would go out after it, strike it down, and rescue the sheep from its mouth. If it rose up against me, I would grab it by its jaw, strike it, and kill it.

“‘Your servant has struck down both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will be just like one of them. For he has defied the armies of the living God!’

“David went on to say, ‘The Lord who delivered me from the lion and the bear will also deliver me from the hand of this Philistine!’

“Then Saul said to David, ‘Go! The Lord will be with you’.” — 1 Samuel 17: 34-37.

This passage reveals how David, a young shepherd, faced the giant, Goliath, with unwavering faith in God.

He had a track record of being helped by God.

Recognising God’s past faithfulness gave him confidence in facing Goliath. Similarly, in our lives, we often face intimidating challenges and obstacles.

However, just as David remembered how God helped him in the past, we should also reflect on the times when God came through for us.

By recognising God’s past faithfulness, we can find strength and courage to confront our present difficulties.

Sometimes, God’s solutions may seem unusual or unexpected, but they are always effective when we trust in Him.

David refused the full armour he was given by the king. He, instead, relied on his trust in God and his skill with a sling.

Goliath’s intimidating presence struck fear into the hearts of all others in the Israelites’ army, but not David.

Why?

Because he had a track record of being helped by God.  David’s unwavering faith in the Almighty allowed him to overcome fear and step forward in confidence.

In our lives, fear often holds us back from pursuing God’s purpose for us.

However, like David, we can conquer fear by placing our trust in God’s help, counting on our previous testimonies.

As people of faith, let us cultivate a personal relationship with God.

David’s intimate relationship with God is evident throughout his life.

In the scripture quoted above, he refers to God as the one who delivered him from the lion and the bear.

In conclusion, let us remember that just as God helped David in his time of need, He is also ready to help us in our challenges today.

We can experience the same victorious outcome as David. Let us trust in God’s help and face our giants with unwavering faith.
