Harare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje has set tomorrow as the trial date for three touts accused of assaulting a pregnant woman who later died — Ms Lyn Chidawaya — at the Simon Mazorodze roundabout last month.

This was after the appearance in court last week of Chamunorwa Lovemore Makonese, Chamunorwa Gumboreshumba and Charles Maunganidze in connection with the matter.

Makonese faces murder charges as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform while the other two are answering to charges of assault.

Police are looking for two other suspects in connection with the case.

According to the sister of the deceased, Ms Liona Misi, the two arrived at Mbudzi around 8pm on May 23 intending to get transport to Beitbridge.

“A group of about five to seven touts started harassing us as we tried to board a bus. They punched and assaulted us and out of fear of further harm, we boarded their bus,” she said.

Chidawaya, who was seven-months pregnant, is said to have sustained internal injuries and was taken to hospital where she died two days later.
