THIS week Bulawayo comes alive with the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) taking centre stage.
While Hararians await the arrival of Christopher Martin who performs this Friday at the Glamis Arena, fun lovers in Bulawayo should brace themselves for a treat this coming weekend.
Tuku, Jeys @ Large City Hall
Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi recently held an oversubscribed memorial gig for his son Sam at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton and has also seen it fit to take the memorial to the Large City Hall in the City of Kings and Queens.

The show, which is dubbed, “Celebrating the Life of Sam in Bulawayo” is set to be supercharged with the godfather Tuku, taking to the stage alongside Gary Tight, Mbeu and Bulawayo’s finest, Jeys Marabini.

Tuku is an international performer whose music is appreciated across the country and beyond and being one of the biggest musicians in the country is enough to highlight the magnitude of the show.

On the other hand Jeys Marabini has established himself at the top of the pile in his genre and performing in front of his home crowd will definitely create an explosive atmosphere. Gary Tight has been rising steadily on the local music scene and on Friday he will display his talent while performing Sam’s songs.

Tickets for the show will be sold at the venue and will cost US$10 for general entry and US$15 for the VIP section.
Tuku Music events manager, Taka Mashonganyika, said fans should look forward to a thrilling show.

“Music fans should gear up for fireworks because all the artistes have promised to bring their best act on the day.
“We all know that Tuku never disappoints his fans, Jeys Marabini is also an exceptional performer and the youngsters Gary and Mbeu are also brilliant, so there is so much to be excited about,” said Mashonganyika.

He said they had decided to hold a memorial gig in Bulawayo since Sam had a huge fan base in the city.
“Tuku decided to do a memorial gig to celebrate his son’s life in Bulawayo because many people from that city loved Sam’s music. Gary Tight will be performing Sam’s songs and I believe he will deliver because we all know what he is capable of.”

Comic relief @ Rainbow
On the same day, Rainbow Hotel Bulawayo will be providing comic relief for the humorous with a comedy show called Trade Fare Laughs. The show will feature top acts that include Carl Joshua Ncube, Ntando Van Moyo and H.O among others.

Winky, Jah invade Amphitheatre
After the Sam Mtukudzi memorial, attention shifts to Winky D and Jah Prayzah, who take their deadly combination to Bulawayo’s Amphitheatre on Saturday. Dubbed the Zima Award Winners’ Show, the gig brings together the best of both worlds with two of the country’s top performers. The trailblazing duo has left many clamouring for more at every stage they have shared as witnessed at the recently held Big Five gig in Harare. There are numerous other parties that will be taking place at various night clubs throughout Bulawayo during the weekend.
