MUSICIANS who are set to perform at the Independence Day gala at Murambinda B Primary School in Buhera have described the event as an important national affair that will go a long way in promoting unity among Zimbabweans.

The gala, which is an annual event, is part of broader Independence Day celebrations.

This year’s celebrations will be held under the theme “Zim@44: Unity, Peace and Development towards Vision 2030”.

Mbira musician Diana Samkange is cherishing the rare opportunity to showcase her talents before multitudes of fans.

“I am excited and cannot wait to perform at the gala. This will be my first time to perform in Buhera and I am promising fireworks,” said the songbird.

For Diana, performing at the event means a lot, not only for her but also for other female artistes. “In the past, female musicians were often overlooked when it came to performing at national events but that has since changed.

“I am grateful to the organisers for choosing me and my fellow female singers to be part of this important occasion,” added Samkange.

Gospel musician Mathias Mhere said performing at the gala is an honour that will immensely benefit his band.

“As a patriot, performing at national events is something that I value greatly. The gala gives us an opportunity to meet our fans from all corners of the country,” said the “Favour” hitmaker. Mhere is expected to perform some of the songs on his forthcoming album that is due for release in June.

Afro-fusion artiste Andy Muridzo is looking forward to a memorable show.

“We will be performing at the gala barely four days after our Australian tour, so the event will be more like a welcome back gig for us. As a band, we are always happy to perform at national events,” said Muridzo through his manager Gift Petro.

Other artistes scheduled to perform at the gala include dendera crooner Suluman Chimbetu, Mark Ngwazi, Chief Hwenje, DJ Fantan and Shantel Sithole.

Sandra Ndebele, Agatha Murudzwa, BigBoy Motsi, Takura, Bio Mudimba and Tambaoga will also showcase their talents.
