South African music superstar Master KG joins forces with the Ndlovu Youth Choir for the Africa Rising show at the iconic Robben Island in South Africa today.

The show will be streaming live from 5pm to 6pm on various platforms, including We Are Africa Rising’s website, their social platforms and The Sunday Mail’s Facebook page, among others.

Master KG is popular for his viral hit Jerusalema featuring Nomcebo, which sparked the Jerusalema dance challenge worldwide.

While the show is being streamed for free, during the run-up to the event audiences were given an opportunity to win an exclusive VIP experience by making an online donation of at least R30, which is set to benefit the music and events industry as well as charities in sustainability, education and conservation.

“The livestream will be happening on Sunday at 5pm and it’s a collaboration with Master KG and the Ndlovu Youth Choir, pretty much the two biggest artistes that have come out of South Africa in the last year or so,” said Africa Rising event director Craig Bright.

“It’s going to be an incredible show with these two big acts performing together which is fantastic as they are going to be playing and singing a lot of big hits.”

He added that viewers will be able to donate to support the #FeedOurCrew initiative.

“It’s a free livestream which will be on various platforms, including weareafricarising.live and you can make donations as we go along. We are doing this in aid of #FeedOurCrew, which is an initiative to help the events industry, artistes and technical crews who have not been able to work for the last year.”

Last year, Master KG beat fellow African performers Burna Boy, Rema, Sheebah, Gaz Mawete, Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa to win the title of ‘Best African Act’ at the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs).

On the other hand, The Ndlovu Youth Choir’s incredible run on ‘America’s Got Talent’ (Season 14) made them the first choir in the history of the show to reach the final.

After their final performance at the talent search show, legendary music producer and record executive, Simon Cowell, said it was the best final he had ever seen in his life. He went on to sign the choir and together with SYCO and Sony Music they released their first album, which debuted at number one on iTunes.

During the coronavirus crisis, the choir continues to offer hope and inspiration with their enthusiastic Covid-19 musical public service messages, which have been shared by the World Health Organisation and the United Nations.

Africa Rising was born out of the desire to continue bringing music and travel to the world after these industries were decimated during the pandemic.

The initiative tells inspiring African stories through uniquely produced music experiences, brought to life by broadcasting free live performances set in the most iconic locations in Africa while showcasing the continent’s biggest artistes.
