The Sunday Mail continues to maintain its dominance on the market as the most read weekly newspaper in the country, enjoying a whopping 25 percent readership in the second half of 2017, compared to 21 percent in the first six months.

According to the latest Zimbabwe All Media and Products Survey (Zamps) 2017 second half report, The Sunday Mail emerged tops of 12 other local weekly publications.

The newspaper also has the most read classifieds section in the country.

The survey further notes that The Sunday Mail Sport is the second most read sports section in the weekly publication categories.

The Sunday Mail dominated the local weekly newspaper market in 2016 as well and several years before.

Other papers in the Zimpapers stable also enjoy popularity among the Zimbabwean population.

Zimpapers’ vernacular weekly, Kwayedza, is on second position, being read by 12 percent of Zimbabweans. The top five positions in the weekly publication category are occupied by newspapers in the Zimpapers stable with The Manica Post on position three and the Sunday News on position four.

Each of the two papers enjoy the readership of 6 percent of the Zimbabwean population.

Bulawayo-based tabloid, B-Metro, is on position five, being read by 5 percent of the population.

The Masvingo Mirror, Standard, Daily News on Sunday and the Independent newspapers are on position six, seven, eight and nine respectively.

They are followed by the Financial Gazette while The Zimbabwean leads from behind.

Out of the five daily newspapers read countrywide, Zimpapers’ Chronicle and The Herald are read by a combined 40 percent of the population.

The two papers also enjoy the readership of 51 percent of the adult urban population.

The Herald is on first position, with a readership of 25 percent of the population in the daily publication category.

It was followed by the Daily News and NewsDay.

The two papers enjoy a readership of 20 percent and 15 percent of the population, respectively, while the Chronicle has a readership of 15 percent. Zimpapers radio station, Star FM, also enjoys a listenership of 45 percent of the urban population, making it the most popular station in urban areas.

Star FM is on position two nationally, after the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Zimbabwe, whose stronghold is the rural population.

Star FM has a listenership of 31 percent of the national population.

Zimpapers’ Manicaland-based Diamond FM enjoys the highest listenership in Manicaland Province at 38 percent.

Zamps is an independent survey conducted by a professional company, Top Line Research Solutions.

The survey was established by the advertising industry in Zimbabwe to provide advertisers with information on where best to place advertisements for their products and services.
