The snake that won’t lose to Caps

The Sunday Mail

“CAPS UNITED will not beat us; if they do I will resign. Go and write that. This is Dynamos; we don’t lose to Caps United.”
For the past five years Dynamos team manager Richard “Nyoka” Chihoro has made this bold declaration each time the Harare Derby has come along. And true to his word DeMbare are yet to lose to Caps United since Chihoro took over as team manager at the beginning of the 2011 season with current assistant coach Lloyd Mutasa heading the technical team then.

In ten outings, DeMbare have won seven while three have ended in draws.
However, this time around Chihoro has not put his head on the block.

“Ummmmm… Unlike in the past where I have told you I will resign should they win, this time I am not making that offer but I know we will win,” he said rather sheepishly.

Dynamos’ rivals believe Chihoro is the team’s supernatural master but the affable team manager has repeatedly said he does not believe in juju.

Chihoro reckons the derby could not have come at a better time that today as Dynamos desperately need a lift after a poor start to the season.

“We have not had the best start to our season although we managed to win in Mutare last weekend. “The derby presents us with an opportunity to redeem ourselves.

“The derby is self motivating, of course the coaches psyche up the players but they know on their own that it’s a match that they can’t lose.

“A win on Sunday (today) will give us the much needed confidence to challenge for honours,” he said.Chihoro said every player at Dynamos has been reminded that losing to Caps United is taboo. “These players have always known from their school going days that Dynamos is a club that is followed by success, they also know losing to Caps United is unacceptable here.

“Even if you ask our supporters, some of them 10-year-olds they will tell you that we can lose to any other team but not Caps United,” he said.
