The Nera circus was in town last week and fortunately it was a damp squib. National Election Reform Agenda my foot! There is nothing national about a bunch of political losers coming together in their moment of desperate need to reach out to each other in the darkness of oblivion.

The picture of ZimPF hoodlum Didymus Mutasa addressing the pathetic hangers-on, flanked by a charlatan like Tendai Biti and a vividly ashen Morgan Tsvangirai was as pathetic as it got. There was nothing to suggest anything that the parties involved were concerned about election reform but everything to do with coalitions. Where was Queen Bee? Welshman? Dabengwa? Mutumanje?

It was just a collection of here-today-gone-tomorrow civil unrest activists like Evan Mawarire and other fly-by-night misfits suffering from a political identity crisis. This was the most revealing manifestation since 2013 that Zanu-PF will win the 2018 election. Last week, the Nera circus and its company of performers who include social media clowns, political acrobats and failed exposed themselves as Southern Africa’s biggest joke. Two weeks ago in this very column, I warned Morgan to stop being a cry-baby who was afraid of elections.

“And you are threatening to do what on the 22nd of March? Nxa! Morgan stop it mfowethu! You want to find comfort in numbers by roping in innocent citizens to allay your fears of the next elections,” I cautioned. Wednesday March 22, 2017 clearly showed that Nera and Morgan are not ready for the elections.

Instead of focusing on campaigning, they were loitering in Robert Mugabe square for the purposes of political prostitution. The disillusionment is real and clear for opposition supporters. The disenchantment with a clueless opposition needs very little persuasion. Nera is in a very dark tunnel and there is no glimmer of light in its dim, hollow and vain ideology. Theirs is an agenda of shattered hopes and embitterment shrouded in wonderment at how they continually fail to appeal to the heart and minds of the majority of voters.

Their non-believers journey is cheer-led by a horde of circus goers and social media armchair critics who urge them on to the cliff of a political abyss. I will be the first to admit that not everything is rosy in Zimbabwe and sometimes the future looks bleak. However, never for the life of my children would I entertain the idea of a Nera-led Zimbabwe; a Zimbabwe that would be infested by men and women of the highest rank of madness. These are catastrophes who would not hesitate to dump our sovereignty by inviting a UN invasion to conduct elections that would no doubt result in the imposition of a spitting image of a puppet ruler.

Here we are, in a vast land of opportunities called Zimbabwe. Here we are, carving our destiny and trying to make the best of our heritage. Here we are, experiencing Independence on our own terms.

And then a reckless idea sprouts that we should invite foreign invasion. Is that all there is to the opposition? Removing Zanu-PF by any means necessary? Thankfully, our internal enemies are gravely outnumbered and if you doubt that, reflect on the handful of low-lives rehearsing their political circus on Wednesday last week.

Pity them! Very few in the electorate knew there was a circus in town and those that knew it was performing could not care less what it was about. Not even the private media can salvage anything sensible from what the myriad of opposition parties hope to achieve in the imaginary event that they take power. Even if one may not prefer Zanu-PF and its policies, surely Nera is not an option. Morgan? Biti? Didymus? Haa mfowethu. The gods can never be so crazy as to usher in these perennial losers as replacements of the current revolutionary regime. Without a doubt, the malady that Nera is suffering from is a nervous condition. They are nervous of the 2018 elections.
